Arconic Inc. is seeking an Instrument Man / Survey Aide to assist senior survey personnel in land and construction surveys for townhouse, subdivision, and residential development projects.
The role involves proper operation and maintenance of surveying instruments, establishing construction lines, elevations, benchmarks, and other survey requirements essential for accurate project implementation.
JOB SUMMARY
The Instrument Man / Survey Aide is responsible for assisting the Geodetic Engineer, Surveyor, or Project Engineer in conducting land and construction surveys for townhouse, subdivision, and residential development projects.
The position is responsible for the proper operation, handling, and maintenance of surveying instruments and equipment and assists in establishing construction lines, elevations, benchmarks, boundaries, and other survey requirements necessary for the accurate implementation of residential development projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Survey and Field Work
Assist the Geodetic Engineer or Surveyor in conducting land, topographic, boundary, construction, and as-built surveys.
Assist in establishing and verifying property boundaries, lot corners, road alignments, elevations, benchmarks, and reference points.
Perform field measurements and collect accurate survey data for townhouse and subdivision development.
Assist in the layout and staking of townhouse units, lot boundaries, roads, curbs, drainage systems, utilities, and other site improvements.
Assist in establishing building lines, grid lines, centerlines, elevations, and other construction reference points.
Conduct checking and verification of existing survey control points and benchmarks.
Assist in monitoring horizontal and vertical alignment and elevations during construction.
Perform as-built measurements and assist in the preparation of as-built survey data.
Assist in identifying discrepancies between approved plans and actual site conditions and immediately report them to the supervising engineer or surveyor.
Ensure that all survey measurements and field data are properly recorded and organized.
B. Surveying Instruments and Equipment
Operate and assist in the proper use of Total Station, Auto Level/Digital Level, Theodolite, GPS/GNSS equipment, measuring instruments, and other surveying equipment.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of the proper setup, calibration, operation, and handling of surveying instruments.
Perform basic checking and troubleshooting of surveying instruments and accessories.
Ensure that survey instruments are properly secured, stored, cleaned, and maintained after use.
Immediately report damaged, defective, or malfunctioning instruments and equipment.
Assist in ensuring that survey equipment is properly calibrated and ready for field operations.
Handle surveying instruments carefully to prevent damage, loss, or inaccurate measurements.
C. Townhouse and Subdivision Development
Assist in the survey layout of townhouse units, subdivision lots, roads, sidewalks, drainage, utilities, and common areas.
Assist in establishing the correct location and alignment of townhouse structures based on approved plans.
Conduct field measurements necessary for road, lot, drainage system, utility, and site development works.
Assist in checking elevations and grades for roads, drainage systems, building pads, and other site development components.
Assist in verifying lot dimensions, setbacks, road widths, and other construction requirements.
Coordinate with Site Engineers, Project Engineers, Contractors, and other project personnel regarding survey requirements.
Provide timely and accurate survey assistance to support construction activities and minimize errors and rework.
D. Data Recording and Documentation
Maintain accurate field notes, survey measurements, sketches, and other survey records.
Assist in downloading, organizing, and backing up survey data from surveying instruments.
Assist in transferring field data to computers and relevant survey software.
Maintain proper records of benchmarks, control points, coordinates, elevations, and other survey references.
Assist in preparing survey reports, field sketches, measurement sheets, and other required documentation.
E. Safety and General Responsibilities
Follow all Company safety policies and project site safety regulations.
Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while conducting field work.
Exercise proper care when working near construction equipment, excavation areas, roads, and other hazardous site conditions.
Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of survey equipment and work areas.
Immediately report unsafe site conditions, survey discrepancies, or equipment problems to the immediate supervisor.
Perform other survey-related duties that may be assigned by the Geodetic Engineer, Project Engineer, or Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
At least Senior High School Graduate, preferably with a background in Geodetic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
Technical or vocational training in surveying is an advantage.
Experience
At least 2–3 years of experience as an Instrument Man, Survey Aide, Survey Assistant, or similar position.
Experience in townhouse, subdivision, horizontal development, or residential construction projects is highly preferred.
Experience in construction layout and site development surveying is an advantage.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Strong knowledge of surveying and field survey procedures.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in operating surveying instruments.
Proficient in the use of:
a. Total Station
b. Auto Level / Digital Level
c. Theodolite
d. GPS/GNSS Survey Equipment
e. Measuring and leveling instruments
Knowledge of construction surveying and site layout.
Knowledge of establishing and checking benchmarks, control points, elevations, coordinates, and reference lines.
Ability to read and interpret survey plans, subdivision plans, site development plans, architectural plans, and construction drawings.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and survey data processing software is an advantage.
Good mathematical and measurement skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Physically capable of performing outdoor and field survey work.
Ability to work effectively with engineers, surveyors, contractors, and construction personnel.
