Job summary

AboitizPower is seeking an Instrumentation and Control Engineer to oversee operation and maintenance of PLC, instrumentation and related control equipment across plants and substations. You will collaborate with O&M to deliver reliable performance and safety in a purpose-driven environment.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical/IT and at least two years of industrial IC experience, with preference for hydro power, substation maintenance, and IT/networking

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Information Technology and related Computer Sciences.
  • At least two years of experience in electrical facilities in industrial instrumentation and control.
  • Preferably hydro power, substation maintenance, industrial programming, network and IT infrastructure experience; ability to read schematics.
  • Knowledge in Instrumentation, PLC and SCADA; basic knowledge of Philippine Grid Code and Philippine Electrical Code.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage maintenance of PLC, instrumentation and control equipment; support OT/IT network communication; maintain VFDs, cranes per standards.
  • Plan condition monitoring and use data analytics to improve reliability; conduct RCA for IC issues.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and control devices; ensure calibration schedules are followed.
  • Oversee SCADA, CMMS inspections and timely performance reports; ensure LOTO compliance.
  • Lead installation, integration and commissioning of IC equipment for innovation projects and strategic plans.
  • Supervise rehabilitation and installation of I&C systems; ensure safety and technical standards.
  • Coordinate with IT and plant engineers for SCADA/PLC connectivity; participate in outage planning to reduce downtime.

As Instrumentation and Control Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Programmable Logic Control, Instrumentation and Control related equipment of the plants and main substations and contribute directly to transforming energy for a better world. You will work closely with O&M to deliver results, create positive community impact, and develop your skills in a supportive, purpose-driven environment.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
EQUIPMENT AND INSPECTION MAINTENANCE
  • Performs and manages corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance of PLC, Instrumentation & Control-related equipment, support to OT/ IT network communication, VFD motors and cranes, in accordance with accepted standards and procedures.
  • Plans and executes condition monitoring activities and utilizes data analytics for failure detection to improve equipment reliability.
  • Conducts Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for instrumentation or control issues and implements corrective and preventive measures.
  • Facilitates calibration of Instrumentation & Control devices and ensures calibration schedules are followed.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of SCADA and CMMS equipment and ensures timely submission of performance reports.
  • Ensures implementation of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) compliance during maintenance activities, with frequent review and adherence to Safety Management protocols.
  • Oversees maintenance works on hydro facilities and civil structures, ensuring I&C systems are properly supported and protected.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS AND DOCUMENTATION
  • Reviews technical drawings, system diagrams, and manuals to plan maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conducts studies and proposes improvements for PLC, Instrumentation, and Control systems to optimize plant performance.
  • Applies data analytics to identify failure patterns, reliability trends, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Prepares and submits reports on system status, calibration, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensures proper work order planning, scheduling, execution, and closure within CMMS, with accurate documentation and traceability.
  • Prepares and updates SCADA guidelines and procedures to ensure reliability and standardization.
  • Leads the installation, integration, and commissioning of PLC, Instrumentation, and Control-related equipment to support Innovation projects, Benchmarks, and Strategic Plans.
  • Supervises the rehabilitation and installation of I&C systems and ensures compliance with technical standards and safety requirements.
  • Facilitates preventive maintenance execution as part of project management for I&C-related systems.
  • Coordinates with IT and plant engineers for connectivity and communications requirements of SCADA and PLC systems.
  • Oversees protection relay troubleshooting, configuration, and system validation as needed.
  • Participates in outage planning and optimization activities to reduce downtime and maximize plant availability.
MATERIALS AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
  • Identifies and monitors critical spares required for instrumentation and control systems and ensures proper inventory management.
  • Ensures calibration and maintenance of testing tools, instruments, and communication devices.
  • Plans, manages, and monitors resource requirements and expenditures related to instrumentation and control maintenance.
  • Develop and implement asset management and life cycle planning strategies for long-term system reliability and cost optimization.
COORDINATION AND COMPLIANCE
  • Provides technical supervision and guidance to I&C Technicians during inspection, maintenance, and calibration works.
  • Ensures that Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and determination of Controls (ORMP) are properly implemented across I&C activities.
  • Leads toolbox meetings and coordinates with Operations, IT, and other departments to align maintenance schedules and improvement plans.
  • Oversees compliance with environmental, safety, and ISO requirements related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • Leads initiatives for asset optimization, outage readiness, and continuous improvement in instrumentation and control performance.
What You Will Need:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Information Technology and other related course in Computer Sciences.
  • At least two (2) years of related experience in electrical facilities in an industrial instrumentation and control;
  • Preferably work-related experience in Hydro Power industry, substation maintenance, industrial programming, network and communications, IT infrastructure, and able to read and interpret schematic diagram
  • Must have knowledge in Instrumentation, PLC and SCADA, and have a basic knowledge in Philippine Grid Code and Philippine Electrical Code
