Job summary

SGV & Co. seeks a Legal Counsel to provide legal and compliance support across corporate, commercial, regulatory, and data privacy matters. You will draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents, conduct legal research, and advise on governance and risk.

You will work with business stakeholders to identify legal/regulatory risks, assist in audits and regulatory reporting, and ensure compliance with applicable laws while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualifications

• Law degree or equivalent required.
• Around 1 year of related experience in contract law, corporate law, compliance, or a related legal field.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
• Working knowledge of corporate, commercial, regulatory, contract, and data privacy laws.

Job description

As a Legal Counsel, you will provide legal and compliance support across a broad range of corporate, commercial, contractual, regulatory, and data privacy matters. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents, conducting legal research, supporting compliance and governance initiatives, and working closely with business stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents, including commercial agreements and NDAs.
• Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions, advisories, memoranda, and other legal documentation.
• Support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, and data privacy requirements.
• Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal, regulatory, and compliance risks.
• Support audits, compliance reviews, investigations, and regulatory reporting activities.
• Collaborate with business units and other stakeholders on legal, compliance, governance, and risk management matters.

Knowledge, Competencies and Skills Requirements:

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Juris Doctor (J.D.), or equivalent law degree.
• Approximately 1 year of experience in contract law, corporate law, compliance, or a related legal field.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents.
• Working knowledge of corporate, commercial, regulatory, contract, and data privacy laws.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks, corporate governance practices, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Strong legal research, analysis, drafting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
• Experience in a corporate, in-house legal, or professional services environment and exposure to contract management systems are advantageous.
