Job summary

Cardinal Health is seeking an experienced IBMi Engineer to act as the technical expert for the IBM i environment, ensuring security, stability, performance, and availability. The role drives platform modernization through cloud, API, and open‑source integrations while supporting continuity and strategic tech initiatives.

The ideal candidate will administer IBM i partitions, manage DR and backup strategies, and lead automation and optimization efforts across the platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 4 years hands-on IBMi administration (OS/400, i5/OS).
• Experience with IBM i version 7.3 or higher.
• Knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Proven BRMS and disaster recovery planning experience.
• Strong IBMi networking (TCP/IP, secure connectivity).
• Experience supporting IBM MQ environments.
• Skills in CL programming and Db2 for i (DB2/SQL).
• Ability to debug RPG/ILE programs.
• Familiarity with IBM Navigator for i and ACS.
• Knowledge of IBM storage tech and enterprise storage concepts.
• Experience with system performance monitoring and tuning tools.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and support IBMi partitions across IBM Power environments.
• Manage backup and recovery using BRMS, VTL, remote replication, DR solutions.
• Perform IBMi OS upgrades, PTF maintenance, firmware updates, lifecycle management.
• Design and maintain high-availability solutions for recovery objectives.
• Develop and maintain architecture standards, procedures, and docs.
• Monitor and optimize CPU, memory, I/O, and storage performance.
• Analyze performance metrics to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Implement IBM i security controls and auditing.
• Develop automation using CL, SQL, RPG, or other technologies.
• Lead on-call escalations and root cause analyses for outages and security events.
• Support change management processes for infrastructure changes.
