Job summary

Umpisa Inc. is seeking a senior full-stack engineer to design, build, and maintain features using React on the frontend and NestJS on the backend. You will architect APIs, own features end-to-end, and mentor junior engineers while advancing scalable, well-tested systems.

The role requires strong TypeScript skills, experience with REST/GraphQL, and cloud/container tech. Travel to Singapore in October and Manila from November–December for training is expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience
• Strong hands-on experience with React (hooks, state management, component architecture)
• Strong hands-on experience with NestJS or a similar Node.js framework (Express, Fastify)
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript, with a solid grasp of type-safe design across frontend and backend
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
• Solid understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or similar)
• Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
• Experience with microservices architecture and message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.)
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal project portfolio
• Prior experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and driving successful project outcomes
• Prior experience conducting Knowledge Transfer (KT) sessions, training, or facilitation for teams and/or clients is highly preferred
• Willingness and availability to travel to Singapore for training in October, and to continue training in Manila from November to December

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features using React on the frontend and NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) on the backend
• Architect scalable, well-tested APIs and services, and contribute to our data modeling and system design
• Own features from technical design through deployment and monitoring in production
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested TypeScript code and participate in code reviews
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, technical debt, and scalability challenges
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and help raise the technical bar across the team
• Contribute to engineering best practices, tooling, and CI/CD processes
• Familiarity and relevant experience with the insurance industry
• Conduct Knowledge Transfer (KT) sessions and training for team members and stakeholders, including during the Singapore (October) and Manila (November-December) training engagements
• Develop and deliver training materials, guides, and documentation to support upskilling and smooth knowledge handover
