Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Summary:
We're looking to add a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to run billing operations for a behavioral health practice. The role spans the complete revenue cycle, from insurance eligibility verification and claims submission to denial management and payment posting, along with phone communication with clients and providers. You'll bring hands-on medical billing experience, strong organizational skills, and confidence working across multiple insurance portals and billing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage inbound and outbound calls (approximately 10 per day) covering client inquiries, therapist questions, eligibility and benefits checks, and claim status follow-ups, with some calls running up to 30 minutes
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for new clients before intake and the start of services
• Prepare and file insurance claims through the relevant billing systems and portals
• Review and reconcile ERA/EOB documents and post them accurately to accounts receivable tracking sheets
• Work through denials by pinpointing issues, documenting reasons, and managing resubmissions
• Handle client payment method updates and keep billing records and account notes accurate
• Maintain and work within insurance portals such as Availity, TherapyNotes, and SimplePractice
• Organize documentation and support internal operations, including SOPs, templates, and tracking sheets in Google
• Post payments accurately across multiple billing systems

Mandatory Skills:

• Direct medical billing experience, either from a corporate setting or as a VA, including hands-on behavioral or mental health billing experience (ICD-10)
• Experience using insurance portals such as Availity, TherapyNotes, or SimplePractice
• HIPAA certification (training provided if not already certified)
• Proficiency in Google Sheets for tracking accounts receivable, payments, and billing updates
• Steady, precise, and able to work solo
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
