Job summary

The Corporate Institute in Mumbai seeks an experienced General Insurance leader to head the Motor Underwriting function, driving risk-adjusted growth, governance, and transformational change within a dynamic team.

You will partner with cross-functional teams to design scalable underwriting frameworks, improve profitability, and deliver strategic underwriting initiatives while upholding regulatory and governance standards.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in General Insurance with significant Motor Underwriting.
• Strong expertise in Motor Insurance products, underwriting principles, pricing, risk assessment, and portfolio management.
• Proven experience leading underwriting teams and driving profitable portfolio growth.
• Understanding of underwriting governance, risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and industry practices.
• Exposure to digital underwriting, automation, data analytics, and underwriting transformation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Motor Underwriting function and develop underwriting strategies aligned with business profitability objectives.
• Oversee risk assessment, pricing, underwriting guidelines, portfolio monitoring, and underwriting governance.
• Drive profitable growth while maintaining appropriate risk, loss-ratio, and portfolio controls.
• Establish underwriting frameworks, risk appetite, authority limits, referral processes, and portfolio monitoring mechanisms.
• Partner with Actuarial, Claims, Product, Distribution, Finance, Reinsurance, and Technology teams to improve portfolio performance.
• Monitor underwriting KPIs, loss ratios, premium growth, risk concentration, claims trends, and portfolio profitability.
