Job summary

Manulife is seeking ambitious software developers in a collaborative, value-driven environment. You will work with engineers to implement best practices in development, testing and delivery, while partnering with Product Owners to align solutions with business needs.

The role emphasizes mentoring, prototype work and evaluating new technologies within an Agile framework, contributing to innovative solutions for customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in frontend and backend technologies (HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node, Angular 2+, React and Java).
• Experience with databases such as MongoDB and SQL.
• Experience with frameworks and API/Service layers (Spring Boot, Swag ger, Node/Express).
• Familiar with New Relic and Kibana.
• Experience with testing (Jasmine, Jest, Mocha, JUnit, Mockito).
• Knowledge of CSS practices and frameworks (Material UI, BEM, SMACSS, CSS Flexbox/Grid).
• Awareness of web standards, accessibility (ARIA, WCAG).
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, OO design and software lifecycles.

Required Qualifications:

• Awareness and adherence to best practices of web standards, testing, and coding for accessibility (ARIA, WCAG)
• Good Foundation in data structures, algorithms, and OO Design with rock-solid programming skills
• Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features
• Understanding of software development lifecycle
• Understanding of how technology supports Manulife business strategy
• Occasionally participates in demos utilizing new tech.; control guidelines required
• Familiar with modern software architectures and API-driven development
• Familiar with technologies such as: API Gateways, Messaging, Data Event Streaming, REST, SOAP, Distributed Tracing, Relational and Document Database Interface/SQL
• Collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills and methods
• Works together in a small team with a common purpose, follows rules from team members

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to PaaS and micro-service architectures
• Exposure to and understanding of Agile scrum methodologies and experience of working in an Agile team
• Experienced in grasping and explaining high level solution architecture
• Exposure to and basic understanding of collaboration tools like Slack, Skype, JIRA
• Knowledge in SonarQube, Fortify and WebInspect
• Knowledge in PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry)
