About the role

We are seeking a Fraud Investigator to identify, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activities across financial transactions, customer accounts, cards, and digital platforms. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may handle complex fraud cases, support fraud prevention strategies, contribute to risk mitigation, and guide junior investigators.

Key responsibilities
  • Review fraud alerts and suspicious transactions across cards, accounts, payment channels, and digital platforms.
  • Analyse customer behaviour, transaction histories, account activity, and red flags to identify unusual or suspicious patterns.
  • Investigate potential fraud cases through evidence gathering, detailed analysis, customer profile reviews, and verification of transaction legitimacy.
  • Conduct reviews involving account takeover, identity theft, payment fraud, card fraud, loan fraud, wire fraud, P2P payments, ACH and check kiting, Zelle alerts, and other transactional fraud scenarios.
  • Use fraud monitoring and case management tools such as Actimize, FICO Falcon, SAS, or NICE where available.
  • Approve, decline, close, reimburse, or Escalate cases in line with policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Apply appropriate mitigation actions, including blocking accounts or cards and recommending preventive measures.
  • Contact customers through approved channels to verify transactions and provide fraud prevention guidance when required.
  • Maintain accurate case records, investigation notes, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform retroactive analysis, fraud control assessments, trend analysis, and root cause analysis to strengthen fraud prevention and support real‑time decisions.
  • Coordinate end‑to‑end alert reviews with internal and external stakeholders, including relevant compliance and risk teams.
  • Support SAR filing and adherence to applicable AML, KYC, PCI‑DSS, AUSTRAC, and other regional or global regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Prepare dashboards and reports covering fraud trends, loss analysis, investigation outcomes, and risk themes.
  • For senior‑level roles, handle complex and high‑value cases, act as a subject matter expert, conduct quality checks and audits, mentor junior investigators, and contribute to training and knowledge sharing.
What we're looking for
  • Minimum bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
  • For experienced roles, 2–3 years of banking process experience and at least 12 months of Fraud Operations experience; senior roles may require 3–8 years of experience in fraud investigation, risk management, or AML/KYC operations.
  • Knowledge of fraud typologies such as card‑present and card‑not‑present fraud, account takeover, identity theft, phishing, and first‑party fraud.
  • Basic understanding of AML, KYC, UMR/SMR, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity patterns, and fraud trends.
  • Experience with fraud investigation or monitoring tools such as NICE Actimize, FICO Falcon, SAS, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to make accurate, timely decisions on complex issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in a professional business environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage time effectively, and work under pressure with minimal assistance.
  • For senior‑level roles, demonstrated stakeholder communication, mentoring, coaching, reporting, and fraud prevention strategy skills.
