Job summary

Universal Robina Corporation is seeking a Feeding Carrier Operator to ensure safe, efficient feeding of sugarcane into milling operations. You will operate the feeding carrier, monitor equipment, and report issues promptly to maintain continuous production.

Ideal candidates have a technical or engineering background with 1–2 years of relevant manufacturing experience and a focus on safety, GMP, and equipment readiness.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a technical, vocational, engineering, or technology-related course.
  • Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology graduates are preferred, particularly for future advancement opportunities.
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or similar work.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the feeding carrier and manage the control panel per procedures.
  • Maintain a continuous and properly sequenced flow of sugarcane for stable milling operations.
  • Monitor cane feeding and adjust operations based on milling conditions.
  • Respond promptly to operational changes to prevent interruptions, overfeeding, or congestion.
  • Conduct routine checks of the feeding carrier and components and report abnormalities.
  • Coordinate with Mill Supervisor and Maintenance for repairs and readiness.
  • Perform off-season maintenance and equipment preparation for milling operations.
  • Maintain safety, GMP, and housekeeping standards and report safety concerns.
  • Keep accurate logs, checklists, and shift turnover documentation.

Job description

Feeding Carrier Operator
Position Overview

The Feeding Carrier Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the feeding carrier to ensure the continuous and controlled flow of sugarcane into the milling process. The role operates and monitors the feeding carrier control system, observes equipment condition and cane flow, and promptly reports abnormalities that may affect milling operations.

The Feeding Carrier Operator also performs routine equipment checks and basic operator care while maintaining safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), housekeeping, and operational standards within the assigned area.

What are the Roles and Responsibilities?
1. Feeding Carrier Operations
  • Operate the feeding carrier and manipulate the control panel in accordance with established operating procedures.

  • Maintain a continuous and properly sequenced flow of sugarcane to support stable milling operations.

  • Monitor cane feeding and adjust operations as required based on milling conditions and instructions from the Mill Supervisor.

  • Respond promptly to operational changes to prevent unnecessary interruptions, overfeeding, underfeeding, or congestion.

2. Equipment Inspection and Operator Care
  • Conduct routine checks of the feeding carrier and its components, including the control panel, bearings, chains, cotter pins, slats, sprockets, drive chains, cooling water, and other accessories.

  • Check lubrication points and observe equipment for abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, loose components, or other signs of deterioration.

  • Immediately report equipment abnormalities, defects, or malfunctions to the Mill Supervisor and coordinate with Maintenance for necessary corrective action.

  • Verify equipment condition before start-up and monitor operating condition throughout the shift.

3. Off-Season Maintenance and Equipment Preparation
  • Perform assigned maintenance and repair activities on the feeding carrier and related milling equipment during the off-season.

  • Assist in the dismantling, inspection, repair, replacement, assembly, and testing of mechanical components as required.

  • Perform equipment cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and other maintenance activities in preparation for milling and refining operations.

  • Coordinate with the Mill Supervisor and Maintenance Team on identified defects, required repairs, and equipment readiness.

  • Ensure assigned equipment is properly restored and ready for safe and reliable operation before the start of milling and refining.

4. Safety, GMP and Compliance
  • Strictly comply with occupational safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, environmental, and other applicable Company standards and procedures.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the control room, control panel, feeding carrier area, and immediate work surroundings.

  • Observe proper safety precautions during equipment operation, inspection, cleaning, and coordination of maintenance activities.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, operational hazards, contamination risks, and other non-conformities to the supervisor.

  • Participate in required safety, GMP, food safety, and operational training and activities.

5. Coordination and Communication
  • Coordinate closely with the Mill Supervisor, other milling operators, cane receiving personnel, and Maintenance Team to maintain smooth and continuous cane feeding.

  • Communicate equipment condition, operational abnormalities, cane-flow concerns, and other relevant observations during the shift.

  • Provide complete and accurate information during shift turnover to ensure continuity of operations.

6. Documentation and Other Duties
  • Accomplish required operating logs, checklists, inspection records, and other documentation accurately and on time.

  • Record and report significant equipment abnormalities, operational interruptions, and corrective actions taken during the shift.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Mill Supervisor to support safe, efficient, and continuous milling operations.

What are the Qualifications?
  1. Education and Experience

  • Graduate of a technical, vocational, engineering, or technology-related course.

  • Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology graduates are preferred, particularly for future advancement opportunities.

  • At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or similar work.

  1. Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and industrial machinery.

  • Able to understand basic equipment readings and operating parameters.

  • Able to perform maintenance and repair activities during the off-season, including equipment preparation for milling and refining operations.

  • Able to identify equipment abnormalities and carry out necessary repairs within assigned responsibilities.

  • Willing to undergo training on feeding carrier operation, control systems, equipment maintenance, and repair.

  1. Safety, GMP and Compliance

  • Understands and follows workplace safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety, and company policies and procedures.

  • Maintains proper housekeeping and cleanliness in the assigned work area.

  • Complies with established operating standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Immediately reports unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities, and potential GMP or compliance issues.

  • Observant and able to recognize and report unusual equipment or operating conditions.

  • Able to follow instructions and work with minimum supervision.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and a responsible approach to work.
