Job summary

Verkada is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Access Control team. You will lead a large, cross-functional engineering group that builds the software powering millions of door events daily, connecting cloud services, apps, and edge devices to deliver a seamless customer experience.

You will mentor engineers, own delivery from concept to production, and shape the technical direction while maintaining an emphasis on reliability, observability, and high-quality software.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 1+ years managing software engineers.
• Experience building production software across frontend and backend systems.
• Strong software architecture and system design skills.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large cross-functional technical projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain exceptional engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend software engineers through coaching, regular feedback, career development, and hiring.
• Own delivery for major customer-facing initiatives from concept through production.
• Partner closely with Product Management, Design, Firmware, Mobile, and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and execute against ambitious goals.
• Drive technical direction while empowering engineers to make architectural decisions.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence through thoughtful code reviews, design discussions, testing, and operational discipline.
• Help build highly reliable, observable, and scalable distributed systems that power millions of real-time events.
• Improve engineering processes, execution, and team health while maintaining a high quality bar.
• Participate in hiring and help build an exceptional engineering organization.
