Job summary

MGEN in the Philippines is seeking an experienced Market Operations Analyst to oversee real-time energy market operations, ancillary services, and trading strategy development for WESM and related platforms.

You will collaborate with Plant Operations, TSD, FMD, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, optimize trading margins, and provide timely reporting.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering or math, PE licensure, and at least 5 years in energy trading or IEMOP interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.
  • Professional Engineering licensure or certification (for non-PRC regulated professions).
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in energy trading or as a Trading Analyst, with hands-on exposure to an Integrated Energy Management System; or
  • At least 5 years of experience in the electric power industry, particularly in roles involving interface with the IEMOP, the Philippine Grid and Distribution Code, WESM Rules, ERC Rules on Retail Competition and Open Access, and the Renewable Energy Act.
  • Previous experience in people management preferred
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets and programming.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as PLEXOS, I-pool, PSSE, R, Python, Matlab, and similar software.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of real-time inputs to NMMS, CRSS, and other MGEN GBPtrading platforms.
  • Lead coordination with internal teams (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and external stakeholders (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco ESO, CEBECO Trading) for plant dispatch and operations.
  • Analyze market dynamics and guide the team in adopting immediate and prudent actions.
  • Supervise the preparation of internal daily reporting on energy market activities.
  • Lead coordination efforts internally and externally on ancillary services and reserve operations.
  • Oversee the monitoring of real-time adherence to WESM rules and support justifications/documentation submissions to WESM Compliance Officers.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

WESM Energy Market Operations

  • Overseethe preparation of real-time inputs to NMMS, CRSS, and other MGEN GBPtrading platforms.
  • Leadcoordination with internal teams (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) andexternal stakeholders (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco ESO, CEBECO Trading) for plantdispatch and operations.
  • Analyzemarket dynamics and guide the team in adopting immediate and prudentactions.
  • Supervisethe preparation of internal daily reporting on energy market activities.

Ancillary Services and Reserve Market Operations

  • Managethe preparation of real-time inputs to the AS Web System and ReserveMarket Platform.
  • Leadcoordination efforts internally (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) andexternally (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco Delta, NGCP) on ancillary services andreserve operations.
  • Analyzereserve market dynamics and guide the team on necessary actions.
  • Ensuretimely preparation of internal reports on reserve market highlights.

Market Operations Compliance Management

  • Supervisethe monitoring of real-time adherence to WESM rules and supportjustifications/documentation submissions to WESM Compliance Officers.
  • Coordinatewith internal stakeholders to maintain compliance with market regulations.
  • Overseecontributions to CPEMS-related activities.

Energy and Ancillary Services Agreements Compliance

  • Leadthe monitoring of compliance with the operating protocols and bestpractices in power supply agreements and retail electricity contracts.
  • Guidecoordination with internal and external stakeholders for the fullimplementation of MGEN GBP Contracts.

Trading Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Overseethe decision-making process for market bids/offers, customer nominations,ancillary services, and other strategic actions to optimize energy tradingmargins.
  • Ensurethe implementation of real-time energy trading optimization plans.

Market Evaluation and Surveillance

  • Leadthe evaluation of market events using data analysis and advanced tools.
  • Overseethe monitoring of competitors' activities, including WESM energy andreserve market bids and offers.

Oversight of Commercial Operations of ConventionalTechnology

  • Supervisethe evaluation of conventional technologies (e.g., Coal, Diesel) with afocus on real-time electricity sales considering technical and regulatorycontexts.

Oversight of Commercial Operations of Renewable andEmerging Technologies

  • Supervisethe evaluation of renewable and emerging technologies (e.g., Solar, Wind,Battery) for real-time electricity sales, taking into account technicaland regulatory environments.

Position Requirements (Basic Qualifications)

  • CompletedBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or relatedfields.
