Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
WESM Energy Market Operations
- Oversee the preparation of real-time inputs to NMMS, CRSS, and other MGEN GBP trading platforms.
- Lead coordination with internal teams (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and external stakeholders (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco ESO, CEBECO Trading) for plant dispatch and operations.
- Analyze market dynamics and guide the team in adopting immediate and prudent actions.
- Supervise the preparation of internal daily reporting on energy market activities.
Ancillary Services and Reserve Market Operations
- Manage the preparation of real-time inputs to the AS Web System and Reserve Market Platform.
- Lead coordination efforts internally (e.g., Plant Operations, TSD, FMD) and externally (e.g., IEMOP, Meralco Delta, NGCP) on ancillary services and reserve operations.
- Analyze reserve market dynamics and guide the team on necessary actions.
- Ensure timely preparation of internal reports on reserve market highlights.
Market Operations Compliance Management
- Supervise the monitoring of real-time adherence to WESM rules and support justifications/documentation submissions to WESM Compliance Officers.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to maintain compliance with market regulations.
- Oversee contributions to CPEMS-related activities.
Energy and Ancillary Services Agreements Compliance
- Lead the monitoring of compliance with the operating protocols and best practices in power supply agreements and retail electricity contracts.
- Guide coordination with internal and external stakeholders for the full implementation of MGEN GBP Contracts.
Trading Strategy Development and Implementation
- Oversee the decision-making process for market bids/offers, customer nominations, ancillary services, and other strategic actions to optimize energy trading margins.
- Ensure the implementation of real-time energy trading optimization plans.
Market Evaluation and Surveillance
- Lead the evaluation of market events using data analysis and advanced tools.
- Oversee the monitoring of competitors' activities, including WESM energy and reserve market bids and offers.
Oversight of Commercial Operations of Conventional Technology
- Supervise the evaluation of conventional technologies (e.g., Coal, Diesel) with a focus on real-time electricity sales considering technical and regulatory contexts.
Oversight of Commercial Operations of Renewable and Emerging Technologies
- Supervise the evaluation of renewable and emerging technologies (e.g., Solar, Wind, Battery) for real-time electricity sales, taking into account technical and regulatory environments.
Position Requirements (Basic Qualifications)
- Completed Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or related fields.
- Professional Engineering licensure or certification (for non-PRC regulated professions).
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in energy trading or as a Trading Analyst, with hands-on exposure to an Integrated Energy Management System; or
- At least 5 years of experience in the electric power industry, particularly in roles involving interface with the Independent Market Operator (IEMOP), the Philippine Grid and Distribution Code, WESM Rules, ERC Rules on Retail Competition and Open Access, and the Renewable Energy Act.
- Previous experience in people management preferred
- Proficiency in computer applications, including spreadsheets and programming.
- Experience with analytical tools such as PLEXOS, I-pool, PSSE, R, Python, Matlab, and similar software.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
