JOB SUMMARY
The EMS Ambulance Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transport of patients to medical facilities by maintaining ambulance readiness, strictly adhering to traffic laws and emergency driving protocols, providing basic patient comfort and monitoring during transport, administering basic first aid when necessary, to facilitate effective patient care and transportation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Transport and Safety
- Safely transport patients to medical facilities, following traffic laws and emergency driving protocols, to ensure patients receive timely medical care.
- Ensure patient comfort and monitor patient condition during transport to detect any changes and provide necessary support or communicate with medical personnel.
- Assist in securing the safety of the scene of the emergency and strategically positioning the ambulance to prevent further incidents and identify potential hazards to protect patients, bystanders, and emergency personnel.
Vehicle Maintenance and Readiness
- Conduct inspections of the ambulance and perform basic maintenance tasks to ensure the ambulance is in optimal working condition and ready for immediate deployment.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the ambulance to maintain a hygienic environment and prevent the spread of infection.
- Maintain and inventory all onboard medical equipment and supplies to ensure that all necessary equipment is available and functioning properly for patient care.
Emergency Response Assistance
- Administer basic first aid to patients at the scene and during transport to provide immediate care and stabilize the patient's condition.
- Assist EMS responders with patient care and handling to support the medical team and ensure efficient patient management.
- Assist in the safe loading and unloading of patients, including securing them on stretchers or in wheelchairs, maneuvering within confined spaces, and coordinating with other team members to ensure a smooth and injury-free transfer.
Documentation and Communication
- Complete accurate and detailed trip reports after each transport to maintain a comprehensive record of the transport, patient condition, and care provided.
- Communicate pertinent information promptly and accurately with dispatch, providing details of the incident, patient condition, and estimated time of arrival, and relaying vital patient information to hospital staff to prepare for patient arrival.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions or deficiencies to ensure the ambulance is in optimal condition for operation, and document all incidents occurring during transport to maintain accurate records and facilitate necessary follow-up actions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of any four (4) Bachelor's Degree course.
- Has at least five (5) years of active driving experience.
- At least one to two (1-2) years relevant experience in the field of Emergency Medical Services
- Knowledgeable on Basic Life Support and EMS system
