Job summary

COMMSEC INC. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design, technical coordination, and lifecycle execution for utility-scale BESS and hybrid renewable energy projects in Davao City, Philippines.

You will manage deliverables from conceptual design through grid interconnection, construction, and commissioning, ensuring NEC/NESC/IEEE/NFPA 855 compliance and safe operation of high- and medium-voltage systems.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design, technical coordination, and lifecycle execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid renewable energy projects. You will manage deliverables from conceptual design and grid interconnection through construction and final commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Engineering: Develop and review single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) power distribution, and BESS architecture.

• Power Studies & Calculations: Perform electrical system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, and grounding using tools like ETAP or SKM.

• Equipment Selection: Evaluate and specify major electrical components including inverters, power conversion systems (PCS), transformers, switchgear, and battery containers.

• Grid Interconnection: Coordinate with utilities or system operators regarding interconnection requirements, compliance standards, and relay settings.

• Project Execution & Site Support: Review vendor packages, support factory acceptance testing (FAT), and provide technical assistance during site construction, testing, and commissioning.

• Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 855, and local IEC standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Experience: 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience, with at least 2-5 years focused specifically on BESS, solar PV, or utility-scale power generation projects.

• Technical Skills: Proficient in power system analysis software (ETAP, PVsyst) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation).

• Knowledge: Strong command of protection and controls, medium/high voltage distribution, and battery storage safety standards.

• Licenses/Certifications: must be REGISTERED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
