Project EHS Manager

About the Role

A global telecommunications company is looking for a Project EHS Manager to lead the implementation and continuous improvement of environment, health, safety and well-being (EHS) across its project portfolio.

The role provides EHS leadership and subject matter expertise to Project Managers, Authorized Service Providers (ASPs), suppliers, and project teams to ensure compliance with legal, customer, and company EHS requirements. It supports the Customer Unit (CU) Head of EHS in achieving country EHS objectives, driving supplier and project EHS performance, reducing operational risk, and fostering a strong safety culture to achieve Target Zero.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Governance and Compliance Management

• Lead implementation of legal, customer, and company EHS requirements across assigned projects

• Act as the primary EHS focal point for project delivery organizations and project-level customer interfaces

• Lead reviews of project EHS performance and compliance status

• Identify systemic compliance gaps and drive corrective and preventive actions

• Ensure effective implementation of project EHS governance frameworks and compliance assurance processes

• Prepare project EHS performance inputs, analysis, and recommendations for country EHS governance reviews, management reviews, and assurance activities

• Escalate significant EHS risks, major compliance concerns, and emerging systemic issues to the CU Head of EHS

EHS Strategy, Programs, and Performance Management

• Support deployment of country EHS programs, directives, and initiatives as defined by the CU Head of EHS

• Develop project-level KPIs aligned with approved EHS objectives

• Use EHS performance data and trends to drive continual improvement

• Lead implementation of EHS initiatives including Target Zero, Supplier Maturity, and Safety Leadership programs across assigned projects

• Support integration of EHS requirements into project planning and delivery processes

• Provide project EHS performance analysis and recommendations to project leadership and the CU Head of EHS

Risk and Opportunity Management

• Lead project EHS risk management activities for high-risk operations

• Review and approve supplier OHS plans for critical projects

• Ensure effective implementation of risk mitigation measures and operational controls

• Drive identification of emerging risks and opportunities across the project portfolio

• Escalate critical EHS risks and high-potential exposures to project leadership and the CU Head of EHS

Operational Assurance and Supplier Management

• Define project inspection, audit, and assurance regimes

• Lead analysis of audit and inspection findings and drive systemic improvements

• Monitor supplier EHS performance and maturity

• Participate in supplier governance and performance review meetings

• Support supplier onboarding, capability development, and corrective action management

• Lead supplier EHS capability development, maturity improvement, and corrective action programs in alignment with company supplier management requirements

• Ensure effective implementation of EHS requirements throughout the contractor lifecycle

• Drive closure of supplier and project corrective actions arising from audits, incidents, and assessments

Incident Management and Learning

• Lead investigations of significant incidents and Stop Work Authority (SWA) cases

• Support the CU Head of EHS and relevant EHS subject matter experts during serious incident and fatality investigations

• Ensure effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions

• Monitor incident trends and identify systemic improvement opportunities

• Facilitate lesson-learned sharing across projects and suppliers

Competence Development and Leadership

• Define EHS competence requirements for project personnel, suppliers, and ASPs

• Establish and maintain project EHS training and competence matrices

• Drive development and delivery of EHS training, awareness, and leadership programs

• Coach project managers, frontline leaders, supplier management, and project EHS personnel on EHS responsibilities and expectations

• Provide technical EHS expertise and guidance across the project organization

Communication and Safety Culture

• Develop EHS communication plans, campaigns, and awareness initiatives

• Promote safety leadership and positive EHS behaviors across all projects

• Drive recognition programs and sharing of best practices

• Support project-level customer engagement activities related to EHS performance

• Influence stakeholders to continuously improve EHS outcomes

Work Arrangement and Schedule

• Combination of office-based and field-based activities

• Frequent travel to project sites and supplier operations as required

• Work in accordance with business and project requirements

This role requires advanced professional knowledge and significant experience in EHS management within project-based operations.

Qualifications

Minimum

• Bachelor's Degree and/or recognized Environmental, Health and Safety qualification

• NEBOSH Diploma, equivalent OHS qualification, or recognized professional certification

• Minimum 7 years of experience in EHS management, including experience supporting multiple projects, contractors, or operational environments within telecommunications, construction, energy, utilities, manufacturing, or other high-risk industries
