Job summary

Lauritz Knudsen (Unit of Schneider Electric) seeks a SCADA Software Support Engineer to deliver L1/L2 support for SmartComm SCADA across diverse deployments. The role emphasizes troubleshooting, firmware and software upgrades, and field integration with PLCs, RTUs, and gateways.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience in SCADA/HMI, strong analytical skills, and willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and FAT/SAT activities.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience in SCADA/HMI software support, configuration, and commissioning.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills for diagnosing software and communication issues.
  • Solid understanding of industrial automation systems, PLCs, gateways, and field instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, networking, databases (SQL), and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Ability to interpret system architecture diagrams, communication networks, and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication and customer-handling skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide L1/L2 technical support for SmartComm SCADA applications deployed across multiple customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex software issues related to graphics, alarms, trends, dashboards, reports, databases, historian, and application performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support software upgrades, patches, migrations, and system enhancements.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and validate communication between SCADA systems and field devices.
  • Support integration with PLCs, RTUs, gateways, meters, VFDs, protection relays, and third-party systems.
  • Work with industrial communication protocols such as: Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA/DA, BACnet IP/MSTP, IEC 61850, MQTT, SNMP, DNP3.
  • Act as the technical focal point for System Integrators (ISPs) and implementation partners.
  • Guide integrators during engineering, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conduct technical training sessions on SmartComm architecture, configuration, deployment, and best practices.
  • Review project architectures and provide recommendations for optimal system performance and scalability.
  • Remote diagnostics and onsite support; travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Coordinate with customers to ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
  • Prepare and maintain troubleshooting guides, knowledge base articles, support reports, and installation procedures.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused professional to provide technical support for SmartComm SCADA software deployments across industrial, infrastructure, and utility projects. The role requires deep expertise in SCADA systems, software troubleshooting, industrial communication protocols, and field support. The candidate will work closely with customers, system integrators, project teams, and product engineering teams to ensure reliable system performance and successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities
SCADA Software Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide L1/L2 technical support for SmartComm SCADA applications deployed across multiple customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex software issues related to graphics, alarms, trends, dashboards, reports, databases, historian, and application performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support software upgrades, patches, migrations, and system enhancements.
Industrial Communication & Device Integration
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and validate communication between SCADA systems and field devices.
  • Support integration with PLCs, RTUs, gateways, meters, VFDs, protection relays, and third-party systems.
  • Work with industrial communication protocols such as: Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA/DA, BACnet IP/MSTP, IEC 61850, MQTT, SNMP, DNP3
Integrator & Customer Enablement
  • Act as the technical focal point for System Integrators (ISPs) and implementation partners.
  • Guide integrators during engineering, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conduct technical training sessions on SmartComm architecture, configuration, deployment, and best practices.
  • Review project architectures and provide recommendations for optimal system performance and scalability.
Remote & Onsite Support
  • Provide remote diagnostics and troubleshooting support for deployed projects.
  • Travel to customer sites for commissioning support, issue resolution, performance optimization, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and system handover activities.
  • Coordinate with customers to ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
Technical Documentation
  • Prepare and maintain troubleshooting guides, knowledge base articles, support reports, and installation procedures.
  • Document recurring issues and contribute to product improvement initiatives.
  • Create technical notes and configuration documents for internal teams and partners.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Work closely with Product Development, Project Management, QA, and Engineering teams to resolve product issues.
  • Provide feedback on product enhancements based on field experiences.
  • Support new feature validation and beta testing activities.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience in SCADA/HMI software support, configuration, and commissioning.
