About the role
The Deputy Director, Business Development will lead business development, tendering and commercial management for the firm's project management consultancy services. The role is responsible for securing new appointments, strengthening client relationships and managing financial performance across the project portfolio. Working closely with management and project delivery teams, the successful candidate will translate business opportunities into competitive, commercially sound proposals and ensure that secured projects meet the firm's revenue, profitability and cash flow objectives.
Key responsibilities
Develop and implement the firm's business development strategy across public and private sector projects.
Identify and assess opportunities for project management, construction management, site supervision and related consultancy services.
Build relationships with developers, government agencies, asset owners, consultants and potential business partners.
Maintain a qualified opportunity pipeline, forecast potential revenue and recommend priorities for pursuit.
Lead the tender process from opportunity assessment and bid/no-bid recommendations through to submission, clarification and negotiation.
Develop proposals based on manpower deployment, project duration, operating costs, overheads and target margins.
Prepare and monitor business budgets, revenue forecasts, project profitability and cash flow projections in coordination with Finance.
Identify margin erosion, cost overruns and unbilled services, and work with project teams to implement corrective actions.
Work with project leaders and HR to align staffing capacity with secured projects and anticipated appointments.
Lead and develop the business development and tender support team.
About you
Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business or a related discipline.
Typically 10–15 years of relevant experience in the built environment, including business development, tendering or commercial management within a consultancy firm.
Proven track record in securing consultancy appointments and preparing technical and cost proposals.
Strong understanding of consultant-side project delivery, manpower planning, cost structures and profitability.
Experience with public and private sector procurement, consultancy agreements and tender evaluation requirements.
Ability to interpret financial reports, assess commercial risks and manage budgets, forecasts and receivables.
Strong client engagement, negotiation, writing and presentation skills.
Relevant professional qualifications or accreditation would be an advantage.
