Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for dental procedures by explaining treatments, making them comfortable, and providing any necessary instructions.
  • Assist the dentist during procedures by handing instruments, suctioning, and ensuring proper patient positioning.
  • Sterilize and maintain dental instruments, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are ready for use.
  • Take and process dental X-rays as needed.
  • Record and update patient medical histories and treatment plans in the system.
  • Maintain patient records, including charting and documenting procedures and treatments.
  • Ensure the dental office is clean and organized, including sterilizing work areas and disposing of waste properly.
  • Manage patient scheduling and appointments, coordinating with the dental team for efficient patient flow.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, post-treatment care, and preventive dental practices.
  • Monitor and manage dental supplies, ordering materials and ensuring the office is adequately stocked.
  • Assist in billing, insurance claims, and managing patient accounts, if required.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a dental assistant program from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Some positions may require additional coursework in dental radiology or dental office management.
Certification/Licensing
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) may be required depending on state or local regulations.
  • Certification in dental radiology (taking X-rays) may be necessary, depending on state requirements.
  • CPR or First Aid certification may be required or preferred.
Experience
  • Previous experience in a dental office or clinical setting is preferred, but entry-level candidates may also be considered.
  • Experience with dental procedures, equipment, and sterilization techniques is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with dental software and patient management systems is a plus.
Skills
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, dental procedures, and dental equipment.
  • Ability to assist the dentist during procedures by handing instruments, operating equipment, and providing suction.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
