The Construction Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting the financial and accounting operations of a construction company. This role handles day-to-day accounting activities, maintains accurate financial records, and assists with job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and project-related financial reporting.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with AP, AR, reconciliations, invoicing, and general ledger activities.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and data manipulation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project and accounting teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting transactions and maintain accurate financial records.
- Process and monitor Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) transactions.
- Review vendor invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and supporting documentation for accuracy.
- Assist with job costing by properly assigning expenses, labor, materials, and other costs to construction projects.
- Track project expenses against budgets and identify discrepancies or unusual variances.
- Prepare and process customer invoices, progress billings, and related documentation.
- Assist with collections and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Perform bank, credit card, vendor, and account reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate records of construction contracts, change orders, retainage, deposits, and project-related transactions.
- Support preparation of financial reports, job-cost reports, and project profitability reports.
- Review transactions for proper coding and allocation to the appropriate project, cost category, or general ledger account.
- Coordinate with project managers, vendors, clients, and internal accounting teams to resolve billing and accounting discrepancies.
- Assist with payroll-related accounting and labor cost tracking when required.
- Ensure accounting records and documentation are complete, organized, and audit-ready.
- Follow established accounting policies, internal controls, and client procedures.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
