Job summary

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary advice on health care and well-being of ABFI flocks to ensure optimal performance.
• Develop and administer disease susceptibility, prevention, and vaccination protocols.
• Monitor performance and recommend adjustments to live operations for safety and cost efficiency.
• Respond promptly to poultry health issues; advise farm supervisor on necessary improvements.
• Diagnose diseases and prescribe treatments, including dosage calculations.
• Cull or condemn birds that are undesirable or unproductive.
• Educate supervisors on infectious/non-infectious diseases and transmission modes.
• Conduct post-mortem examinations to determine causes of death.
• Review vaccination and medication programs and explain revisions to manager and staff.
• Train and supervise farm workers on health policies, vaccination, euthanasia, and disease prevention.
• Conduct technical training related to poultry care programs and bio-security compliance.
• Establish quarantine procedures to prevent disease spread inside farms.
• Research and suggest drugs for specific diseases and monitor resistance development.
• Guide and motivate subordinates in performance standards.
• Establish laboratory facilities to enhance diagnostic capability.
• Provide direction to swine operations and R&D on AI, vaccination, medication, and nutrition.

Job description

1. 1. Responsible in providing veterinary advice on health care and well-being of ABFI flocks to deliver optimal performance on bird’s health.
2. 2. Develop and administer protocol on: disease susceptibility, prevention programs, and vaccination program.
3. 3. Monitor performance and recommend adjustment in live operations programs, policies and procedures to improve performance in safe and cost efficient manner.
4. 4. Respond with urgency in trouble shooting bird’s health and disease issues that may arise regardless time and situation. Advice farm supervisor on necessary improvements.
5. 5. Diagnose diseases and prescribe treatment, compute dosage and administration necessary.
6. 6. Culls or condemn undesirable, unproductive and/or inefficient birds from flock.
7. 7. Educate farm supervisor and caretakers about infectious and non-infectious diseases that can spread by vertical and horizontal mode.
8. 8. Conduct post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
9. 9. Review vaccination and medication program and explain to the manager and subordinates if revision is necessary.
10. 10. Train and supervise farm workers on bird’s health policies and procedures including but not limited to vaccination. Proper euthanasia, birds handling and disease monitoring and prevention.
11. 11. Conduct technical training related to poultry care programs, and compliance of bio-security.
12. 12. Establish quarantine procedure to prevent the spread of disease inside the farms.
13. 13. Research and suggest the drug of choice for specific disease, and study the development of drug resistance.
14. 14. Guide, direct and motivate subordinates in performance standard and monitoring of performance.
15. 15. Establish laboratory facilities needed to enhance diagnostic capability.
16. 16. Provide direction to swine operations and research & development on artificial insemination, vaccination & medication and balanced nutrition.
