Job summary

MatchaTalent is seeking a Head of Mining Operations for a remote FIFO underground mining operation in Papua New Guinea. You will lead development, production, and safety across the underground mine, coordinating with Technical Services, Geology, Processing, and Executive Management to meet production targets.

You will drive planning, contractor management, and workforce capability while maintaining high safety standards in a challenging remote environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• CoC certification or eligibility for PNG Metalliferous Mine Manager's CoC.
• Valid driver's license.
• 10 years underground mining experience with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles such as Mine Manager or Head of Mining.
• Experience leading underground mining operations within remote FIFO environments.
• Strong knowledge of narrow-vein mining, mine planning, ground support, and ventilation.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for underground mining operations, ensuring safe, productive execution of mine development, production, ground support, ventilation, and mine services.
• Collaborate with Technical Services and Geology to develop short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans.
• Champion safety leadership with full compliance to mining legislation and Mine Safety Management System.
• Manage departmental budgets, operational costs, and capex planning.
• Oversee contractor performance to meet productivity and safety targets.
• Lead and develop Mining Superintendents, Shift Bosses, Supervisors, Engineers and staff.
• Monitor production performance, identify risks, and implement improvements to maximize productivity.
• Foster collaboration across mine operations and support functions to achieve site objectives.
