Job summary

EROAD is seeking a Chapter Lead to unite technical and people leadership for its embedded Java engineering community in Manila. You will act as the technical authority on Java and Spring Boot architecture across squads, coaching engineers and setting engineering standards, while driving AI-assisted development.

This hands-on leadership role offers on-call rotation and close collaboration with product, architecture, delivery and operations within a SaaS environment.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs and cloud-native backend services.
• Experience with automated testing practices.
• Experience leading or coaching engineers through design, implementation, review and delivery.
• Experience setting or improving engineering standards across squads or communities of practice.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools in engineering work, including review expectations and safe adoption.
• Ability to recognise AI-generated code failure modes before they create quality, security or operational risk.
• Experience working with product, architecture, delivery and operations stakeholders in a SaaS or product engineering environment.
• AWS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority on Java and Spring Boot architecture across squads in Manila.
• Lead and coach Tech Leads and engineers through design, implementation, review and delivery.
• Set and continuously improve engineering standards across a chapter or community of practice.
• Drive disciplined, repeatable practices for AI-assisted engineering, including review expectations and context management.
• Spot AI-generated code failure modes early and put guardrails in place.
• Work closely with product, architecture, delivery and operations stakeholders in a SaaS environment.
• Take part in an on-call rotation, compensated per company policy.
