This role operates under the guidance of senior finance leadership and directly supports the National Accounting Compliance Officer and Supervisor. The position is crucial for reviewing financial data, assisting Country Offices and the Global Shared Services Centre with accounting issues, and ensuring compliance with IPSAS and IOM's financial procedures.

Job purpose: The Sr. Accounting Compliance Associate's primary purpose is to support the accurate financial reporting and compliance of the organization. This involves the detailed review and analysis of financial data, providing essential assistance to Country Offices (COs) and the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) in resolving complex accounting issues. A key function is the routine monitoring of transactions within the WAVE system to ensure adherence to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and the organization's Financial Management Rules and Procedures (FMRP). The role contributes to maintaining the integrity of financial operations and supporting effective financial management across IOM's global network.

Responsibilities

The role encompasses several key areas of responsibility. In General Accounting, the Associate will provide guidance to Country Offices, Regional Offices, and GSSC on IOM financial policies, coordinate issue resolution for the WAVE system, and offer guidance on financial reporting and Oracle ERP processes. They will review and manage tickets through the Financial Coordination Platform, recommending improvements to internal controls and accounting practices. For Accounts Compliance Review, the Associate will periodically analyze trial balances of assigned Country Offices, review accounts, coordinate findings, and follow up on resolutions. They will elevate material findings, evaluate exceptions, and assess the financial risk of offices to determine review frequency. During Month-End Closing Procedures, the Associate will review balances, check the completeness of accounting returns, assist in monitoring clearing accounts, and provide guidance on account closure issues. Additionally, the role involves assisting with audit preparations, maintaining monitoring files, providing training on accounting systems, and performing other accounting functions as required.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required, coupled with four years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a high school diploma with six years of relevant experience is acceptable. Holding a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification is considered an advantage.

Work experience

The position requires experience in accounting, financial monitoring, or administrative finance support. Familiarity with financial systems or ERP systems, such as Oracle, is advantageous. Experience working within international organizations or UN agencies is also considered a plus.
