The Category Manager (Food) is responsible for developing and executing category strategies to drive sales, profitability, and market share. This role manages product assortment, pricing, promotions, and supplier relationships while ensuring alignment with consumer trends and company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies to achieve sales, margin, and growth targets
- Manage product assortment, including selection, SKU rationalization, and lifecycle management
- Analyze sales performance, market trends, and consumer behavior to guide decisions
- Lead pricing, promotions, and merchandising plans to maximize profitability
- Negotiate with suppliers on cost, terms, promotions, and contracts
- Coordinate with marketing, supply chain, and operations teams for smooth execution
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure availability and minimize waste or overstock
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards
- Prepare reports and presentations on category performance and forecasts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Food Science, or related field
- At least 5–10 years of experience in food retail, buying, or category management
- Strong analytical and commercial skills
- Excellent negotiation and supplier management experience
- Knowledge of food trends, consumer behavior, and retail dynamics
- Proficient in MS Excel and data analysis tools
