Universal Robina Corporation-Sugar and Renewables CARSUMCO is looking for a Cane Development Specialist.
The Cane Development Specialist will be responsible for executing strategies to enhance cane development and increase supply within an assigned mill site. Reporting directly to the Planter Partnership Manager and functionally to the Cane Development Manager, the role ensures alignment with site-specific operational goals while adhering to broader cane development strategies and technical standards. The position involves close collaboration with farmers, stakeholders, and internal teams to implement sustainable practices and achieve productivity targets.
What are the Roles and Responsibilities?
- Strategic Planning:
- Design and implement targeted strategies to boost cane supply and productivity within the assigned mill site.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify growth opportunities in cane development.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to initiate partnerships and programs for sustainable cane cultivation.
Farmer Support and Training:
- Provide hands-on technical guidance to farmers on critical cane cultivation areas, such as land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management.
- Develop and deliver farmer training sessions focused on enhancing agronomic practices and improving crop yields.
- Act as a resource for troubleshooting and resolving technical farming challenges.
3. Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitor field conditions, growth progress, and key productivity metrics, identifying risks and addressing them proactively.
- Implement corrective measures in response to issues such as crop diseases, pest outbreaks, or suboptimal growth.
- Evaluate the impact of farmer training and recommended practices on crop yield and productivity improvements.
4. Innovation and Technology:
- Promote the use of advanced agricultural technologies, such as GIS tools, precision agriculture equipment, and automated systems, to optimize productivity.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, sustainability trends, and regulatory changes to enhance cane development initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for integrating innovative farming practices into existing operations.
5. Reporting and Documentation:
- Compile detailed reports on cane development performance, progress against targets, and areas requiring improvement.
- Maintain accurate documentation of activities, including farmer engagement, training sessions, and field assessments.
- Ensure all development efforts are aligned with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.
What are the Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications in Agronomic Practices, Precision Agriculture, or Sustainable Farming preferred.

Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cane development, agricultural extension, or related roles.
- Demonstrated success in implementing agricultural initiatives at a site level.

- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret field data effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with farmers and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in agricultural software and tools for field management and data analysis.
