The Business Intelligence Developer is a data expert who works primarily with databases and various software tools. This role involves developing, fine‑tuning, and implementing IT solutions—from coding and testing to debugging and designing new tools—to solve business problems and support decision‑making. The developer spends a substantial amount of time researching, planning, and creating analytical models that help the organization mine data, present findings, and simplify complex technical information for non‑technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and support business intelligence tools and reports, including physical data models and dimensional analyses.
• Design, code, test, and aggregate results from SQL queries to provide information to users.
• Participate in the design, development, and analysis of data architecture and warehousing approaches.
• Support operational business improvement initiatives by developing and designing new data‑model requirements, ensuring builds align with business needs.
• Validate data integrity, monitor system performance, and deliver on data and analysis requests.
• Help drive the data warehouse using Azure Synapse Analytics – from system design and implementation through ongoing maintenance.
• Develop commonality across reporting definitions to ensure varied business stakeholders understand report outputs and visualizations.
• Interpret and summarize the results of various analyses in a timely and meaningful way.
• Ensure quality of reports and visualizations by troubleshooting end‑user issues.
• Collaborate with internal operations experts to understand data needs, provide insights, and develop user‑friendly reporting for decision‑making and process improvement.
• Collaborate with members of the BI, IT, and operational teams to drive data governance.
• Stay current with industry trends, identify and research new technologies to innovate the BI process.
• Handle projects that may be assigned on an ad hoc basis and assist other corporate initiatives as necessary.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in data warehouse and reporting (3 years preferred).
• Experience with cloud‑based platforms and tools such as Azure is a plus.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with reporting and visualization tools.
• Healthcare data experience is a plus.
• Experience with an object‑oriented programming language like Python is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of internal customers.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to dig into the weeds while keeping the big‑picture reporting goals in mind.
• Strong quantitative and data analysis skills.
• Demonstrated ability to seek out, analyze, and solve problems.
