he Business Development Manager is a key leadership role within MGEN's Investments Group, reporting directly to the Head of Business Development. This position is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and leading the origination of new organic power generation projects and strategic partnerships that align with MGEN's growth strategy. The incumbent will oversee the entire business development lifecycle, from market identification and feasibility assessment to stakeholder engagement and initial project structuring, ensuring a robust pipeline of viable projects that enhance MGEN's portfolio and contribute to long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement MGEN's business development strategy, identifying key growth areas, market trends, and competitive landscapes within the power sector and emerging energy technologies (e.g., renewables, energy storage, hydrogen).
- Drive the identification and origination of new power generation projects (greenfield, brownfield) and strategic partnership opportunities.
- Establish clear targets and metrics for business development activities, ensuring alignment with MGEN's investment criteria.
Market Research & Opportunity Assessment
- Lead in-depth market research, feasibility studies, and preliminary due diligence for potential projects, assessing their technical, commercial, environmental, and regulatory viability.
- Analyze power market dynamics, demand forecasts, regulatory changes, and policy incentives impacting new developments.
- Provide strategic insights on emerging technologies and business models in the energy transition.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including government agencies (e.g., DOE, ERC), regulatory bodies, energy sector players, project developers, local communities, and potential partners.
- Represent MGEN in industry forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings to enhance visibility and identify opportunities.
Project Origination & Structuring
- Lead early-stage project development activities, including concept development, site identification (in coordination with Land Acquisition), and preliminary technical and commercial assessments.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Legal, Technical, Finance, Land Acquisition) to develop preliminary project structures and secure necessary agreements (e.g., MOUs, Joint Development Agreements).
- Prepare initial project proposals and business cases for internal review and approval.
- Establish and manage a robust pipeline of potential projects, tracking their progress through various development stages.
- Ensure timely progression of projects from origination to the handover for detailed project development or M&A execution.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Business Development team, fostering a culture of strategic thinking, innovation, and proactive opportunity identification.
- Ensure the team possesses the necessary skills and capabilities to support MGEN's growth ambitions.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. An MBA from a reputable institution is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in business development, project development, or a related commercial role within the power generation or energy sector.
- At least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role, with direct experience in leading and executing significant business development initiatives for large-scale energy projects.
- Proven track record of successfully originating, evaluating, and bringing to fruition (or advanced stages) new power projects or strategic energy partnerships.
- Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and negotiation capabilities.
- Superior communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, capable of engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage high-performing teams.
