Job Description
Barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee beverages and other related products, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the workspace, and delivering excellent customer service. Baristas often work in coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, or even drive‑thru locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Beverage Preparation:
- Brew coffee, espresso, and tea, following specific recipes and quality standards.
- Prepare and serve specialty drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and iced drinks.
- Operate espresso machines, grinders, and other equipment safely and effectively.
Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and take their orders, suggesting items and answering questions about the menu.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by providing high-quality service and addressing any issues promptly.
- Process customer transactions accurately, handling cash and credit card payments.
- Manage tips and register receipts, ensuring proper change is given.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required); some cafes may prefer candidates with a degree in hospitality or food service management.
- Experience: Prior experience in customer service or working in a café environment is often preferred but not always required.
Skills:
- Coffee Knowledge: Understanding of different coffee beans, brewing techniques, and espresso preparation.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with customers positively.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to consistently prepare high-quality drinks and maintain cleanliness.
- Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple orders and tasks efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Basic Math Skills: For handling cash transactions and managing inventory.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Physical stamina to lift boxes or bags of coffee and other supplies.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, often high‑pressure environment.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and early or late shifts.
