Primary Role Objective and Job Summary
An A/V Design Engineer provides presales support as a technical consultant, generating functional system descriptions, CAD drawings, block flow diagrams, and equipment lists to enable customer proposals. The engineer also supports project management and technicians for ongoing projects, delivering a professional experience for clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce comprehensive system wiring and architectural documentation—including signal flow documents, system wiring details, architectural details, mounting details, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and equipment location drawings—for audiovisual, videoconferencing, and broadcast designs.
- Identify special requirements for projects (e.g., test equipment, specialized tools, rigging support).
- Present design reviews with internal staff and clients throughout the design lifecycle.
- Identify all cabling and miscellaneous material needs for assigned projects.
- Create solutions for the following spaces:
- Conference Rooms and Huddle Spaces
- Executive Board Rooms and Executive Briefing Centers
- Command and Control Rooms
- Network Operation Centers
- Training Facilities and Auditoriums
- Video Walls and Digital signage
- Customer Experience Centers
- Custom Audio and Video experience rooms
- Participate in client needs analysis meetings, scheduling meetings, creative briefings, project meetings, and design reviews when necessary.
- Maintain knowledge of all audio/video product lines and services offered by the company and its vendors.
- Research best practices and industry standards to improve installation standards.
Other duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of A/V design and engineering experience.
- AVIXA CTS‑D certification.
- Fluent working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, Visio, and database programs.
- Working knowledge of WireCAD, Revit or other BIM software preferred.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and structured problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑motivated, self‑starter, personable, and well‑organized.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior customer service skills.
- Planning, organizing, and implementing skills for successful project completion by due dates.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and interpret general business documentation.
