Job Description:
The Assistant Manager – Data Center Operations supports the reliable, efficient, and safe
operation of the company’s mission-critical data center facilities. This role works closely
with the Sr. Manager – Data Center Operations to execute operational strategies, enforce
policies and procedures, and ensure daily activities meet the organization’s performance,
availability, and sustainability objectives.
The Assistant Manager will oversee operational teams and vendors to maintain high service
availability, ensure compliance with operational standards, and drive continuous
improvements across data center infrastructure and facilities management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Operations Execution
- Support the day-to‑day management of data center operations, ensuring the continuous availability of power, cooling, and critical infrastructure systems.
- Supervise operational activities including facilities maintenance, equipment monitoring, incident response, and operational support.
- Ensure adherence to operational procedures, change management processes, and maintenance schedules.
- Assist in coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance programs for critical systems including UPS, generators, CRAC units, electrical distribution, and cooling infrastructure.
KPI Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor and track key operational metrics including but not limited to the following:
- PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness)
- MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)
- MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) Uptime / Availability
- RCI (Rack Cooling Index)
- Ensure operational KPIs and SLAs are consistently met.
- Assist in identifying performance gaps and implementing improvement initiatives.
Incident & Change Management
- Coordinate incident response activities and ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for operational incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to incident management and change control processes.
- Work closely with engineering and IT teams to support infrastructure upgrades, maintenance windows, and deployments.
Vendor & Service Management
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers responsible for facilities maintenance and infrastructure support.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with service-level agreements.
- Support contract management, service scheduling, and work order tracking.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure operational compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Support implementation of operational procedures, safety programs, and audit requirements.
- Assist in maintaining documentation, operational logs, and compliance records.
Reporting & Coordination
- Provide operational reports, maintenance updates, and incident summaries to the Sr. Manager – Data Center Operations.
- Assist in maintaining operational dashboards and tracking infrastructure performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, IT, Security, and Facilities to ensure smooth data center operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- 6–8 years of experience in mission‑critical data center or facilities operations.
- Experience supervising technical teams in a data center or critical infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems including HVAC, UPS, generators, CRAC/CRAH units, and power distribution systems.
- Familiarity with data center operational metrics and performance monitoring.
- Experience working with DCIM platforms, monitoring systems, etc.
- Knowledge of incident management, change management, and maintenance management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
- Strong problem‑solving, coordination, and communication skills.
- Certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, Uptime Institute ATS/ATS+, or similar are an advantage.
