Job summary

Makro Philippines is seeking an Accounting AM to support the Accounting Manager in overseeing financial operations, internal controls, tax and finance compliance. This hands-on role requires building processes in a growing start-up retail business to enable strategic decision-making.

The role covers accounting and financial reporting, journal entry review, bank and vendor customer reconciliations, ERP system optimization, and coordination with external auditors.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in accounting roles with supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards and financial processes.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Experience in a large-format retail organization is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements.
• Prepare and review journal entries and ensure accuracy of accounts.
• Monitor and reconcile bank, supplier, and customer accounts.
• Maintain and improve accounting systems and chart of accounts.
• Support implementation of ERP or accounting systems as the business scales.
• Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requirements.
• Design, implement and improve financial processes and internal control systems.

The venture aims to introduce differentiated wholesale format and assortment to the Philippines to address unmet local demand for high-quality, fresh food products.

Role Overview

The Accounting AM supports the Accounting Manager in overseeing the financial operations of the company, covering accounting, internal controls, tax and finance & accounting compliance. As part of a growing start-up retail business, this role requires a hands‑on leader who can establish accounting processes and support strategic decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting

• Prepare and review financial statements
• Prepare and review journal entries and ensure accuracy of accounts
• Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, supplier and customer accounts as applicable
• Maintain and improve accounting systems and chart of accounts
• Support implementation of ERP or accounting systems as the business scales
• Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requirements

Finance Processes and Internal Controls

• Support in the design, implementation and improvement financial processes and internal control systems
• Provide inputs for policies for cash handling, inventory management, procurement and expense approvals

Tax and Reporting Compliance

• Prepare and review tax filings, and ensure timely submission of all statutory reports
• Maintain proper documentation to support tax filings and audits
• Liaise with tax consultants and government agencies as necessary
