Accounting Manager (Remote, Philippines) - US CPA Firm - Part-Time to Full-Time
About us
Milks CPA is a growing Texas-based CPA firm serving US small businesses, contractors, nonprofits, and individuals.
The role
You'll oversee accounting for our US clients: bookkeeping review, month-end close, payroll management, sales tax filings, and acting as a trusted client contact, while building the processes that let us scale. The role starts part-time and we expect to move it to full-time quickly. It is remote for now; as we grow, we want this person to help us set up a physical office in the Philippines near where they live and build an on-site/hybrid team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee monthly bookkeeping, bank and credit card reconciliations, and month-end close in QuickBooks Online; review junior staff work before it reaches clients.
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reports under US GAAP, with clear variance explanations.
- Manage payroll end to end in Gusto and QBO Payroll (processing, payroll tax filings, new hires, year-end W-2s), including US certified payroll (WH-347) for prevailing-wage jobs.
- Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns (e.g., Texas Comptroller), track filing calendars and nexus, and reconcile sales tax liabilities.
- Set up and maintain job costing for contractor clients.
- Handle invoicing and AR follow-up, and help automate billing and back-office processes.
- Lead cleanup and catch-up projects (duplicate entries, unreconciled accounts, prior-period corrections).
- Communicate with clients in writing and by video: request documents, explain the numbers, answer questions professionally.
- Manage tasks, deadlines, and client documents in Canopy, and follow engagement scope from Ignition.
- Document SOPs and help train and mentor bookkeepers as the team grows.
- Later, help find and set up a local Philippines office, then hire, train, and lead an on-site team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; Philippine CPA, US CPA, or ACCA preferred.
- Experienced accounting manager with 7 to 8+ years in accounting.
- Proven track record managing accounting teams (supervising, reviewing, developing staff).
- Hands-on experience with books cleanups and monthly closes.
- Experience managing US payroll and preparing sales tax filings.
- Strong QuickBooks skills (Online and Desktop) plus experience with other ERPs (e.g., Xero, NetSuite, Sage). Gusto, Canopy, or Ignition a plus.
- Able to work independently without supervision when needed, with good judgment and ownership of deadlines.
- Hands-on US GAAP experience serving US clients.
- Excellent written and spoken English; confident talking directly with US business owners.
- Interest in leadership and in helping build a local office and team over time.
- Reliable internet, backup power, and a quiet workspace.
Schedule
- Starts at 20 hours per week.
- Initially US Central Time daytime hours only (night shift in the Philippines).
- May move to a split schedule later as the on-site team grows.
Compensation
- Starts at $865 USD per month for 20 hours/week (about PHP 50,000/month).
- Moves from part-time to full-time quickly as client load grows, with pay increasing to match.
- Path to Office Lead with a pay increase when we open a local office.
