Job summary

Tata Projects in Sohar, Oman, seeks Welding Engineers to develop, review and approve welding procedures, and support QA/QC across project teams.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor or diploma in engineering with 5–10+ years in welding for EPC/oil & gas, plus preferred AWS IWE/CSWIP certifications. On-site role with exposure to pressure vessels and pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in mechanical/welding related field.
• Advanced welding certifications preferred (AWS IWE, CSWIP, etc.).
• 5–10+ years welding engineering or related EPC/oil & gas experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications WPS.
• Prepare PQR and Welder Qualification Records WQTR/WPQ.
• Monitor welding activities to ensure compliance with project standards (ASME AWS API ISO EN).
• Provide technical support to welders, supervisors, inspectors and project teams.
• Evaluate welding techniques, materials, consumables and equipment for suitability.
• Investigate welding defects and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with QC, NDT and production teams.
• Review engineering drawings, material specs and fabrication requirements.
• Ensure proper implementation of welding procedures and heat treatment requirements.
• Conduct welding procedure qualification tests and welder performance qualification tests.
• Monitor productivity, welding parameters, consumable usage and project schedules.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, welding documentation and inspection records.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications WPS
• Procedure Qualification Records PQR and Welder Qualification Records WQTR WPQ
• Monitor and control welding activities to ensure compliance with project specifications codes and standards ASME AWS API ISO EN etc
• Provide technical support and guidance to welders supervisors inspectors and project teams

• Investigate welding defects failures and non-conformities and implement corrective actions
• Coordinate with Quality Control QC Non-Destructive Testing NDT and production teams

• Conduct welding procedure qualification tests and welder performance qualification tests

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Diploma.
• Professional certifications such as: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) (preferred), International Welding Engineer (IWE) (preferred), CSWIP 3.1/3.2 (advantageous)
• 5-10+ years of experience in welding engineering, fabrication, construction, or oil & gas projects.
• Experience in pressure vessels, pipelines, structural steel, tanks, or process piping projects.
• Familiarity with EPC projects and quality management systems.
