Job Title

Technician – Power Controls & Communication

Location

Job Purpose

Perform Electrical Power Controls & Communication maintenance at the designed location under the supervision of the Electric Power Controls & Communication Supervisor. The role focuses on executing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive and corrective maintenance to preserve the operational integrity of systems and equipment, minimize downtime, and ensure reliability and availability of equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Execute routine maintenance and troubleshooting of Electric Power Controls & Communication installations in plants, process utilities, power generation, workshops, offices, and laboratories.
  • Maintain and protect electric power systems, ensuring over‑current and under‑voltage protection devices, circuit breakers, fuses, and related equipment are correctly installed and functioning.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, and test and adjust equipment using hand and power tools, electric meters, and testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and wiring diagrams to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Conduct preventive, corrective, and annual maintenance, including Turnaround work on 132kV and 33kV breakers, power transformers, VFDs, battery chargers, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units, protection relays, and central control systems.
  • Test electrical equipment’s insulation, coil windings, and verify motor integrity to ensure electrical continuity and safety.
  • Perform emergency unscheduled repairs and troubleshooting for electrical motors and lighting systems.
  • Record work findings, complete maintenance logs, and confirm maintenance status to ensure compliance with HSE and quality standards.
Key Interactions
  • Internal: Electrical Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians (TL), Planning, Operations, and HSE teams.
  • External: Contractors and supporting staff.
Working Conditions

Field operations in a refinery/ petrochemical plant environment, with moderate screen usage. Shift work as per business needs.

Education & Experience

Minimum qualification: Full‑time Diploma in Electrical Engineering (certificates from private institutes not acceptable). Technician: 2 years of relevant experience. Senior Technician: 4 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience as an Electrical Technician in a refinery or petrochemical plant.
  • Knowledge of refinery and petrochemical plant electrical power distribution systems.
  • Working experience with power transformers, VFDs, emergency diesel generators, 132kV/33kV switchgear, electrical protection relays, UPS systems, and battery chargers.
  • Proficiency in using special tools, measuring and testing devices, and test equipment for electric maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret single line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Strong communication skills (written, read, spoken English).
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, hand and power tools, measuring devices, and result‑oriented time management.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and technical skills.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude for dismantling and reassembling electrical equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving electrical faults.
