Job summary

Qualifications

Job Title

Technician – System Control Stream OQ8 – Function: Maintenance Department, Electrical and Instrumentation Section

Location: Oman, Duqm

Budget: OPEX and/or CAPEX and/or Revenue amount as relevant.

Reporting to: Supervisor – Control Systems (direct reports)

Job Purpose

Designs, analyzes, implements, and maintains control systems to regulate and optimize various processes in the Process and non‑Process areas under the Control Systems Supervisor scope, acting as a Supervisor player and part of the site’s management team using technical expertise to develop solutions regarding quality problems of control systems, including all aspects of maintaining control‑system assets installed, supporting new E & I projects, and providing troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance support for control‑system equipment.

  • Manage and ensure the availability of the site’s Emergency Shutdown System (ESD), Distributed Control System (DCS), and PLC‑based control loops while proactively promoting process safety initiatives.
  • Develop solutions to maintenance and quality problems of control systems in the OQ8 plant.
  • Support new automation projects.
  • Interact with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, Environmental personnel, and third‑party contractors.
  • Provide professional technical advice, guidance, and support to the team.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and assess support improvement proposals from others.
  • Guide Control System team members to ensure assets and equipment are available at all times, minimizing downtime and meeting operational targets that support gross margin and profitability.
  • Develop talent people as a feeder for OQ8’s talent pipeline.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with HSE procedures, conduct toolbox meetings, risk assessments, and execute maintenance activities under the Supervisor’s supervision.
  • Receive assignments or work orders and execute all assigned work for E & I maintenance Control Systems.
  • Collect data from field and report them through proper communication channels.
  • Be familiar with operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various control systems and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate with other E & I department peers for troubleshooting and repair works on distributed control systems and logic controllers.
  • Support troubleshooting and tuning on complex control loops.
  • Support programming of various Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Execute Control Systems maintenance services on planned and unplanned (CM, PM, TA) activities.
  • Execute projects initiated through MOC, RCA, and other upgrade means as applicable.
  • Support operations to ensure equipment system performance is within defined operating envelope and regularly conduct alarm management review.
  • Provide support in instrument troubleshooting (upset conditions and abnormal situations).
  • Support Supervisor to upgrade and identify obsolete systems like DCS, ESD, IPS, FGS, RTU, and PLC systems.
  • Support Supervisor on receiving and analyzing periodic reports on control systems maintenance and scheduled turnarounds to determine best courses of action for increasing efficiency.
  • Support Supervisor on spare parts inventory, ensuring min/max inventory and performing monthly analysis to guarantee availability of critical spares.
  • Ensure end‑user satisfaction with maintenance corrective actions and close SAP notifications / work orders upon job completion.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Electronic & Telecommunication, Instrument, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required).
  • 2 years of relevant experience as Technician; 4 years as Sr. Technician.
  • Experience as Control Systems or Instrument Technician.
  • Knowledge of refinery and petrochemical plant operations.
  • Experience in static equipment maintenance and workshop activities.
  • Experience in workshop testing and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to work with computer‑based business applications (SAP).
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems and PLCs.
  • Familiarity with SAP system transactions & reports.
