JOB PURPOSE
The E amp I and Automation Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all electrical instrumentation control systems and automation maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant equipment and facilities. The role leads E amp I maintenance teams, manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs, supports commissioning, start-up, shutdowns and capital projects and ensures compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards. A key focus of the position is the establishment and development of E amp I maintenance systems, asset management processes and automation support capabilities to transition the operation from commissioning through stable production while maximizing equipment availability, system integrity and operational performance.
MAIN TASKS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
- Supervise and coordinate daily electrical instrumentation and control system maintenance activities
- Ensure reliability of power distribution systems motors MCCs VFDs instrumentation analyzers and plant automation systems
- Support pre-commissioning commissioning loop checks function testing and start-up activities
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Test FAT Site Acceptance Test SAT and system acceptance testing
- Review and approve maintenance plans work orders and shutdown activities
- Ensure critical E amp I equipment is maintained according to OEM and reliability requirements
- Manage DCS PLC SCADA HMI and associated industrial network infrastructure
- Support process optimization through automation and control improvements
- Ensure compliance with industrial cybersecurity standards control system access management backup procedures and change management processes
- Coordinate software backups change management and control system upgrades
- Monitor equipment performance and reliability to minimize downtime
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve asset availability and lifecycle
- Review and approve maintenance work orders job plans and schedules
LEADERSHIP amp TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Lead coach and develop E amp I technicians automation specialists supervisors and contractors
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training requirements
- Promote a culture of accountability teamwork and continuous improvement
- Ensure adequate manpower planning and resource allocation
- Ensure ERP system is fully organized within the execution teams
SAFETY amp COMPLIANCE
- Enforce company safety policies procedures and permit-to-work systems
- Conduct risk assessments and participate in incident investigations
- Ensure compliance with regulatory environmental and company standards
- Promote safe work practices and achieve zero-harm objectives
RELIABILITY amp CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Analyze equipment failures and implement root cause corrective actions
- Monitor Electrical Availability Control System Availability Instrument Reliability MTBF MTTR maintenance costs and planned maintenance compliance
- Support reliability-centered maintenance RCM initiatives
- Identify and implement opportunities for maintenance optimization
- Support development of asset management strategies to maximize equipment lifecycle and return on investment
- Maintain equipment criticality assessments and asset registers
SHUTDOWNS amp PROJECTS
- Plan and execute plant shutdowns turnarounds and major overhauls
- Coordinate with operations engineering procurement and contractors
- Support capital projects equipment installations and commissioning activities
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and schedule requirements
BUDGET amp RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
- Prepare and manage maintenance budgets
- Monitor spare parts inventory and optimize stock levels
- Control maintenance expenditures while maintaining equipment reliability
- Assist with procurement of electrical instrumentation automation equipment software and related services
- Manage and evaluate contractor performance
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety and quality requirements
- Review contractor scopes of work and service agreements along with other MMC teams
