Job summary

Royal District Nursing Services in Auckland, North Island, is seeking compassionate, reliable Support Workers to assist four clients aged 8–17 with special needs. The role requires patient, culturally grounded support, following individual plans and maintaining records.

We offer 12-hour shifts (7am–7pm or 7pm–7am) with 30+ hours weekly, NZQA-supported training, and a clear career pathway into health, disability, and community services. Flexible full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • Must have either a Level 3 NZQA Health and Wellbeing qualification (or higher) or relevant experience supporting children or individuals with special needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and care giving skills with a strong focus on quality driven service delivery
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • A reasonable level of wellbeing and fitness to perform the requirements of the role
  • Personal qualities of initiative, integrity, reliability, resilience and self-confidence
  • Availability to work a permanent 12-shift schedule
  • A current full New Zealand driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily living support to tamariki and rangatahi in line with their individual Support Plans, promoting independence and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with the Child Wellbeing Team to implement, review, and evaluate each child’s progress toward their goals, escalating concerns when needed.
  • Complete objective, professional, and timely client records to support quality service delivery.
  • Complete mandatory training and achieve NZQA requirements while applying new knowledge and skills to improve care outcomes.
  • Maintain clear communication with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues, while respecting professional boundaries, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Deliver culturally appropriate support that reflects the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and respond appropriately to cultural needs or concerns.
