Job summary

Odyssey is seeking a Youth Practitioner for the Whakatakapokai Youth Justice facility in Auckland. The role focuses on delivering an alcohol and other drug programme with education and therapeutic interventions for rangatahi, both one-on-one and in groups, incorporating kaupapa Māori approaches.

You will support rangatahi and their whānau, work with the broader Odyssey team, and provide aftercare in partnership with health and community professionals.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification (level 7) in Alcohol and Drug, Social Work, Youth Work or related field.
• Experience in social services, youth justice, addictions or mental health care and group facilitation.
• Registration with DAPAANZ, or HPCA Act body (or willing to pursue)
• Excellent communication and motivational enhancement skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with behaviour change programs.
• Knowledge of Māori and Pacific cultural practices and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Responsibilities

• Deliver alcohol and other drug programme through one-on-one and group sessions.
• Provide aftercare support for rangatahi and whānau.
• Collaborate with Odyssey team and health/community professionals.
• Support rangatahi to identify and achieve personal goals.
• Incorporate kaupapa Māori approaches where appropriate.
