Job summary

Odyssey has a Senior Peer Support Specialist position in Auckland South Corrections facility to deliver treatment within a bi-cultural programme for up to 60 men in a therapeutic community setting.

The role provides peer leadership and specialist peer support to tāngata whai ora and works with the DTP team to meet Te Tiriti obligations and achieve goals. Lived experience and AOD knowledge are essential, along with strong computer skills.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years relevant work experience, including peer-based role in mental health/addictions setting
  • Lived experience of alcohol or drug use and/or mental health challenges
  • Qualification such as Diploma in AOD or Bachelor in social work, or 2+ years equivalent plus training (e.g., intentional peer support)
  • Knowledge of AOD treatment, recovery principles, Māori care models (Te Whare Tapa Wha, Te Wheke)
  • Knowledge of peer resources and networks
  • Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to this role
  • Excellent computer skills (email, data entry, word processing)
  • NZ Driver's Licence

Job description

Do you want to be a part of our bi cultural Alcohol and Drug Treatment service delivered in partnership with Serco within the Auckland South Corrections facility?

We are now currently seeking a full-time permanent Senior Peer Support Specialist to join our team in delivering treatment for 6 to 12 months within in a therapeutic community-based environment for up to 60 men.

Your role will provide peer leadership and specialist peer support to tāngata whai ora and work collaboratively with DTP team members to deliver an effective bi-cultural programme to tāngata whai ora that supports the achievement of their goals and meets Odyssey’s Te Tiriti obligations.

Do you have:

  • At least 2 year’s relevant work experience, including prior experience in a peer-based role, preferably in a mental health or addictions setting
  • Lived experience of alcohol or drug use and/or of mental health challenges
  • A relevant qualification e.g. Diploma in AOD, bachelor’s in social work OR at least 2 years equivalent work experience and relevant training e.g. intentional peer support training
  • Knowledge/awareness of AOD treatment and recovery principles, including Māori care models e.g. Te Whare Tapa Wha, Te Wheke
  • Knowledge of peer community resources and support networks
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to this role
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly email, data entry and word processing
  • A full Current New Zealand Drivers Licence
