Job summary

Hynds Group is seeking a hands-on Forklift Operator/ Yard Assistant at our Christchurch Hornby site. You’ll spend time across the yard, forklift operations, loading/unloading trucks, and assisting customers at the counter.

The role is varied and requires you to move efficiently between tasks while upholding safety and accuracy. Essential is a current forklift licence and a Class 1 driver’s licence, plus experience in forklift, yard work and front-counter customer service.

Qualifications

• Valid forklift licence (F endorsement) and a full Class 1 driver’s licence.
• Forklift and yard experience with ability to work at a fast pace.
• Experience serving customers at the counter and handling enquiries.
• Solid computer skills for stock control, invoicing and order processing.
• Good fitness to handle product up to around 20 kg.
• Industry product knowledge is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift to move, stack, load and store product safely (concrete and PVC).
• Load/unload trucks and coordinate drivers, deliveries and paperwork.
• Perform daily forklift checks and keep the yard tidy, organised and secure.
• Manage yard and stock: stocktakes, cycle counts, coding, and receiving goods.
• Serve customers at the counter: sales, quotes and phone enquiries.

Job description

At Hynds, you'll help keep our busy branch moving — making sure product is where it needs to be and out the gate on time. Reporting to the Branch Manager of our Hornby site, you'll spend your day across the yard, the forklift and the front counter, so no two days look the same. One minute you're loading a truck, the next you're receiving inwards goods, then you're helping a customer at the counter. It's hands-on, it's varied, and it keeps our branch running.

What you'll be doing

• Operating the forklift to move, stack, load and store product safely — including concrete and PVC
• Loading and unloading trucks and customer vehicles, and coordinating drivers, deliveries and paperwork
• Daily forklift checks and upkeep, and keeping the yard clean, organised and secure
• Yard and stock control — stocktakes, cycle counts, coding product, dockets and receiving inwards goods
• Serving customers at the counter — sales, quotes and phone enquiries

What you'll bring

• A current forklift licence (F endorsement) and a full (Class 1) driver's licence — both essential
• Forklift and yard experience, and confidence working at pace
• Front-counter customer service experience — you're comfortable dealing with people
• Solid computer skills for stock, invoicing and orders
• The fitness to be active all day and handle product up to around 20 kg
• Industry product knowledge is a bonus, not a must
