Mō te tūnga | About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop or build on their workforce management and analytical experience while contributing directly to how New Zealand Police plans and deploys its people.

As a Workforce Analyst, you will work with workforce data, operational demand and rostering information to help ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time. You will support workforce forecasting and planning, develop and manage rosters, monitor workforce availability, and provide reporting and advice to support operational decision-making.

You will work closely with operational leaders, managers and Workforce Management colleagues to understand changing demand, identify workforce pressures and develop practical solutions. A key part of the role is balancing operational requirements with employment agreements, rostering rules and the needs of our people.

This opportunity will provide hands‑on experience across workforce planning, forecasting, rostering, data analysis, operational deployment and stakeholder engagement, while building an understanding of how effective workforce management supports frontline service delivery.

  • Analyse and interpret workforce and roster data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing insights and recommendations to support operational decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimise 24/7 rosters that align workforce resources with forecast demand, operational requirements, and service delivery needs.
  • Manage day-to-day workforce deployment, including leave, absences, roster changes, and abstractions, to maximise workforce availability and operational coverage.
  • Ensure rosters and workforce management practices comply with employment agreements, business rules, policies, and legislative requirements relating to hours of work and breaks.
  • Build effective relationships with managers, supervisors, and staff while developing consistent workforce management processes, documentation, and practical solutions to emerging rostering and workforce challenges.
