Job summary

Hāpuku Lodge and Treehouses in Kaikōura, Canterbury, seeks an experienced Wellness Manager to lead and grow a luxury wellness programme. The role combines leadership, programme development and hands-on treatment delivery across Kawakawa Spa and the Wellness Studio.

You will recruit, coach and supervise therapists, manage bookings and budgets, and ensure high standards of hygiene and service while collaborating with Lodge leadership to shape pricing and guest experiences.

Qualifications

  • NZ Registered Massage or Therapy Qualification or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience delivering massage and wellness treatments in luxury settings.
  • Experience leading, supervising or developing wellness teams.
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.

Job description

Hapuku Lodge and Treehouses – Kaikoura, South Island

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Wellness Manager to lead the next chapter of our wellness offering at Hāpuku Lodge & Tree Houses in Kaikōura, Canterbury. Based across Kawakawa Spa and our new Wellness Studio, this full time role will be responsible for delivering exceptional treatments whilst leading a team of therapists and specialist contractors. You will help develop a distinctive and commercially sustainable wellness programme to compliment the unique hospitality offering that defines our luxury lodge.

This position is expected to involve approximately 60% leadership, administration and programme development and 40% hand-on treatment delivery, although this balance will vary according to guest and operational requirements. Minimum hours 30 per week.

Your duties will include
  • Lead the day to day operations across Kawakawa Spa, the Wellness Studio and associated guest experiences
  • Personally deliver high quality massage and wellness treatments
  • Manage wellness booking and consultation systems, ensuring the team is trained in their use
  • Maintain impeccable organisation, hygiene and safety standards across all wellness areas
  • Roster and coordinate a small team of therapists and a wider network of specialist contractors
  • Recruit, onboard, train and support wellness team members - setting clear expectations, providing regular coaching and giving feedback
  • Work with Lodge leadership to establish pricing, revenue targets, budgets and performance measures
  • Develop and design treatments, programmes and signature experiences that align with Lodge philosophy and sense of place
  • Manage wellness bookings, staffing, treatment revenue, operating costs and guest feedback
  • Manage treatment products, stock levels, equipment and build strong supplier relationships
  • Maintain appropriate treatment records and protect guest privacy and confidentiality
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally, efficiently and confidently
  • Monitor team presentation and professionalism, ensuring adherence to Lodge standards
  • Work closely with Guest services and other departments to ensure a personalised and seamless guest experience
  • Ensure all equipment and work environments are well maintained, safe and operational
  • Stay informed on industry trends to incorporate relevant new ideas and approaches to our wellness services
What we are looking for
  • Strong hands-on experience delivering massage and wellness treatments (experience in a luxury lodge, resort or high end spa environment preferred)
  • Previous experience leading, supervising or developing team members
  • NZ Registered Massage or Therapy Qualification, or similar
  • Ideally, additional qualifications or experience in at least one other related field (yoga, breathwork, meditation, mindfulness or movement)
  • A current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one before commencing
  • Confidence co-ordinating contractors and maintaining consistent service standards
  • Committed to the team, the Lodge and its story providing exceptional service
  • Flexible to work a range of shifts, including weekends & public holidays
