Job summary

Red Stag Timber, located near Rotorua, seeks a Weekend Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team on the weekend shift. The role focuses on hands-on mechanical maintenance, diagnostics and reliability across the sawmill, planers, remanufacturing, kilns and treatment plants.

Ideal candidates hold a NZ recognised trade qualification in mechanical engineering, with 8+ years in heavy industrial plant, strong interaction skills and a safety-first approach. NZ residency required.

Qualifications

• NZ recognised trade qualification in mechanical engineering – fitting/turning & diagnostics.
• Minimum 8+ years in heavy industrial plant maintenance.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, bearing fitment and mechanical fitting.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and deliver high quality work.
• Previous supervisor level experience and strong interpersonal skills.
• Safety-first attitude; prior sawmill or timber processing plant experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead weekend maintenance activities within the maintenance team.
• Maintain plant and machinery to ensure reliability for production shifts.
• Work across Sawmill, Planers, Remanufacturing, Kilns and Treatment plants.
• Apply sound maintenance processes and diagnostics to prevent faults.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and mentorship to team members.

Weekend Maintenance Supervisor -Primary Processing

Availability to work weekends on a permanent basisis required.

Located 10 minutes’ drive south of Rotorua CBD, Red Stag Timber is an industry leader when it comes to producing quality structural timber products. The Company operates New Zealand’s largest sawmill and is a well-established and successful business, employing over 400 staff & contractors.

An opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Supervisor to join our Maintenance team on a permanent basis on the Weekend Shift. This is a hands‑on position to apply sound mechanical maintenance process knowledge, and work with our experienced Weekend Maintenance Team. The team provides critical support to ensure plant and machinery is maintained effectively, ensuring reliability to run production shifts in all operational areas including the Sawmill, Planers, Remanufacturing, Kilns & Treatment plants.

To be successful you will:

• Hold a NZ recognised trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering – Fitting/Turning & Diagnostics;
• Have a minimum 8+ years of recent work experience in heavy industrial plant;
• Be skilled in hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, bearing fitment, setup and alignment, mechanical fitting, diagnostics etc.;
• Work to and interpret mechanical drawings and deliver reliable, high quality work;
• Have previous supervicor level experience and haveconfident interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrate an essential “Safety First” attitude, leading by example;
• Previous experience in a Sawmill or timber processing plant would be advantageous.

Hours of work for this position are Thursday – Sunday, 6.00am – 4.30pm, with additional hours as overtime (T1.5) if required. Work hours on a Saturday and Sunday attract premium rates (T1.33) as well as Shift Leave.

Monday to Wednesday are regular rostered days off.
