Job summary

Gore District Council is seeking enthusiastic Casual Water Safety Instructors to deliver water safety and learn-to-swim programmes at the Aquatic Centre in Gore. You will work with children and adults to build water confidence and promote safe aquatic behaviours.

Ideal candidates have strong communication, a positive attitude, and a commitment to safety. First Aid or swim teaching qualifications are desirable, and applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people of all ages.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Good organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe environment for participants and staff.
  • Previous swim teaching, coaching, or water safety education experience would be advantageous.
  • A current First Aid Certificate and/or swim teaching qualification would be desirable.
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and engaging water safety and learn-to-swim lessons.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit differing ages, abilities, and learning needs.
  • Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Build strong relationships with participants, parents, caregivers, and schools.
  • Ensure all lessons are delivered consistently and in line with programme standards.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and risk management.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with other aquatic programme activities as required.

We're looking for enthusiastic, reliable, and engaging individuals to join our Aquatic Centre team as Casual Water Safety Instructors. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children and adults, has a passion for water safety, and thrives in a customer-focused environment. As a Water Safety Instructor, you will deliver water safety and learn-to-swim programmes to schools and community participants. You will help build confidence in the water, promote safe aquatic behaviours, and contribute to a positive learning experience for all participants.
