Job summary

Whakatāne District Council is seeking Learn to Swim instructors to help our community gain life-saving swimming skills. You will work with a range of ages in the pool, with full training provided; previous experience is advantageous but not required.

The role runs on a rotating roster from Monday to Saturday, including mornings and after-school sessions, with Saturdays mornings. A Police Vetting Check, drug test and pre-employment medical may be required; a positive attitude, strong

  • Willingness to pass police vetting and medical checks.
  • Full training provided; previous swimming experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Learn to Swim lessons in the pool for children of various ages.
  • Be in the water during lessons and provide a high-quality experience.
  • Operate on a rotating roster Monday to Saturday including mornings and after-school sessions; Saturdays mornings.

Our Learn to Swim instructors work with our community to learn the valuable life skill of swimming and gaining confidence in the water. You will be working with a range of ages and will be required to be in the pool while delivering lessons. Full training will be provided; however, previous experience will be advantageous. You'll need to be a team player with great communication skills and can build rapport quickly and thrive on delivering a top-quality experience to everyone who enters our facility.

This role operates on a rotating roster from Monday to Saturday, covering both morning and after school swim lessons. Saturdays are morning lessons only.

To be successful, you will have the following:

  • Strong swimming skills - Swimming is our business so you'll be comfortable and confident in the water
  • A positive attitude! You will be joining a team who need enthusiasm and motivation to get stuck into whatever the day brings!
  • Outstanding communication skills - you will enjoy interacting with children and have the patience to teach core skills repetitively to small groups
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and support to your colleagues when needed
  • Flexibility to be able to work some mornings, evenings and during school holidays.
  • Above all else, a good sense of humour and great work ethic - all with a big smile!

As this position is classified as a safety sensitive role you will be required to pass a Police Vetting Check, drug test and pre employment medical check.
