Job summary

Waikato Waters Ltd in the Waikato region is seeking a Pump Station Operator to keep wastewater services running smoothly. You’ll inspect, operate and maintain pump stations, investigate faults and carry out minor repairs, while collecting samples and supporting plant operations.

You’ll work outdoors, be hands-on, safety‑conscious and able to work with colleagues and contractors. A full, current driver licence and practical mechanical skills are essential; experience in utilities or maintenance

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in operations, mechanical work, maintenance, construction, utilities or a similar field.
• The skills to check equipment, work out straightforward faults and carry out minor repairs.
• A sound understanding of safe working practices, including spotting hazards, using protective equipment, reporting incidents and working safely with contractors.
• The ability to keep accurate records and use Microsoft Office and operational or maintenance systems.
• Clear communication and a willingness to work with colleagues, contractors, customers and other teams.
• Good organisation, attention to detail and a calm approach when things get busy.

Responsibilities

• Check, operate and maintain wastewater pump stations to keep them working safely and reliably.
• Investigate faults, make minor repairs and call on specialist support when needed.
• Help with planned maintenance and urgent repairs to keep service disruptions to a minimum.
• Collect and prepare wastewater samples for testing.
• Keep clear, accurate records of inspections, test results and maintenance.
• Coordinate contractors and make sure job safety checks and required work permits are in place.
• Keep track of equipment and supplies so the team has what it needs.
• Support treatment plant operations, monitoring and equipment maintenance, and help with reticulation work and emergency response when needed.
