Job summary

Wanganui District Council seeks a detail‑oriented team member to support the Waste Water Team in meeting compliance and reporting obligations.

You will operate and maintain wastewater pump stations, rural schemes and treatment plants, perform sampling and monitoring, and evaluate problems to implement fixes.

You’ll supervise contractors, work weekends and be on the on‑call roster, as part of the Three Waters team delivering high‑quality water services.

Qualifications

• Current, clean driver’s licence.
• Computer data entry skills.
• Proven ability to follow maintenance procedures.
• Perform well under pressure.
• Understand data and draw conclusions.
• Comply with safe work procedures and policies.
• Able to work weekends and participate in an on‑call roster.
• Support and participate in Emergency Management for the Council.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater pump stations.
• Operate rural wastewater schemes and treatment plants.
• Conduct resource consent sampling and compliance monitoring.
• Evaluate problems and take remedial steps.
• Supervise and work with external contractors.
• Be a hands‑on person and not afraid to get hands dirty.
• Collaborate with Three Waters team and other Council members.
