Job summary

Farmers Trading Company is seeking a First Line Manager to lead a distribution team at our National Distribution Centre in East Tamaki. You’ll drive daily operations, safety, and service performance, while coaching staff and supporting onboarding and training.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in warehousing or logistics, strong communication skills, and a proactive safety mindset. This role offers a competitive package and opportunities for growth within a fast-paced retail supply chain.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role (warehouse, logistics, or stock control).
• Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced distribution or e-commerce environment.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for building positive team culture.
• A proactive approach to health, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Confidence working cross-functionally and making data-driven decisions.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office and general computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan daily operations and staffing to meet performance targets.
• Lead pre- and post-shift briefings and regular team meetings.
• Manage productivity, costs, and workflow (WIP) to achieve KPIs.
• Build strong working relationships across teams and departments.
• Ensure internal customer needs are met through efficient processes.
• Coach, mentor, and develop team members to reach their full potential.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members.
• Lead performance development planning (PDP) and drive team engagement.
• Oversee safe use of equipment and maintain high health & safety standards.
• Ensure process compliance, accurate reporting, and operational excellence.
• Participate in wider management activities, including stocktakes.
