Job summary

OceanaGold is offering a paid Waihi Summer Internship in Communications. You will work on-site at Waihi, 7:00am–4:30pm, on a 9-day fortnight (40.5 hours/week).

This internship runs mid‑November to mid‑February 2027, for students in their penultimate or final year studying Communications, Social Science, PR, Marketing, Design or Journalism. You will gain practical experience, work on diverse comms projects, and present learnings to Site Management at the end.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Diploma or Bachelor in Communications, Social Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Design or Journalism.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Unrestricted New Zealand working rights.
  • Available from mid‑November 2026 through to mid‑February 2027.
  • Accommodation options at Waihi or surrounding areas preferred.
  • Full Class 1 Driver's licence; manual preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Are you a talented and ambitious student studying towards a Diploma or Bachelor of Communications, Social Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Design or Journalism and looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have the perfect opportunity for you to join our External Affairs and Social Performance team at OceanaGold working at our Waihi operation.

This paid internship opportunity will run approximately from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicant) working with our talented External Affairs and Social Performance team on-site at Waihi. The hours of work are 7:00am to 4:30pm, working a 9-day fortnight roster (5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) 40.5hrs per week. Take a long weekend every second week to explore the stunning Coromandel!

What will you be doing?

  • Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
  • Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well‑rounded knowledge of the mining process.
  • Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

  • Content creation for internal and external audiences, e-newsletter production, event assistanceand other supporting comms elements focused on demonstrating the benefit of mining in Waihi. Educating the general public outside Waihi on mining methods used and the opportunities and progress of the Waihi North Project.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To gain a greater understanding about social licence for Waihi mining operations.

Qualifications

  • In your2ndlast or final year of role‑related study

  • Current & strong academic performance and a passion for your chosen field
